A lot of smoke out there about Beal today. What a stupid f***ing contract they gave him. Not only can he dictate where he’s going but he can veto the deal if he doesn’t like the pieces going back. Years ago this was clearly what the outcome was going to be to everyone except Ted. Unbelievably poor asset management. Never double down on bad investments.

It’s wild. Not a single person outside of the Wizards exec team thought signing Beal was smart. It was the worst contract in the NBA the minute it was signed. It’s not like this was a surprise outcome or good intentions gone sideways… a desperate, irrelevant franchise doing desperate things which keeps them irrelevant.

The 2024 pick is top-12 protected, so I can't imagine that is conveying. Either the 2025 Detroit pick or the 2025 Brooklyn pick is the prize to be had from the Knicks.

If Winger (or whoever he hires) can somehow pull off getting one of those and offloading Beal, he's already better than Sheppard and Grunfeld.

Sign and trade Kuzma and trade Porzingis to load up on further draft capital, and rebuild properly without minimal boat anchor contracts
