Considering it. Starting a personal multi-year golf training plan/journey, culminating in a dream trip to the UK for a buddy‘s 50th in 2025. I joined a local place here that gives me unlimited indoor time in Trackman bays…..loving it so far, but just trying to get my golf muscles back right now.
Haven't looked into this system much but I follow a golf-oriented scientist on Twitter who hawks this stuff so much I had to mute him lol
I'm seeing more guys show up at the range with similar gadgets and I guess that's good if it's being done right. If not then you turn in to Roy near the end of Tin Cup, emerging from his trailer with all that crap for "lost and desperate souls" attached to him.
Getting digits is always a good baseline, though. Nice to sanity check some things. But IMO there's no substitute for actual ballflight so an indoor simulator or launch monitor is a partial solution.
Not sure how useful the "portable" options for a few hundred bucks are, but a couple grand for a Flightscope based on what we used to pay years ago when I was operating one. Just check around as I think there are cheaper sellers.
The problem with FS is there are several hidden costs. $1K to get the pro package (which paywalls a lot of crucial data), another $500 if you want the face impact upgrade (which is essentially the same as using impact tape), etc. Still probably not a bad compromise vs the full price of TM.
FS was always a level below Trackman, though.
Comparison with Trackman:
tl;dw: FS reads at first touch and has limited tracking, but TM reads at full compression while tracking entire ballflight. So there's slight difference in numbers on shorter clubs but over 230yds or so you begin to see separation between the two units (3-8yds). Not a whole lot of difference but again ymmv and it's like 1/10th the price.
But for strength training for golf, I don't think there's any substitute for just weight training, flexibility, endurance training, etc. If a weighted club of some kind is needed that's fine.
Not sure if any of that's more helpful than googling.
