It's all a semantic abuse of the word "tolerance", which was never meant to mean "anything goes" in the civil rights context. It was meant as a compromise first step against outright hostility since "acceptance" or other more friendly terms didn't seem possible.

Now people who belong to the largest religions in the world pretend they're somehow oppressed because their particular brand of bigotry isn't being "tolerated".

Codified bigotry is the hard line in the sand for me. Freedom of speech...barring like yelling fire in a crowded theater anyone can have/say whatever dumb ass, crazy hot take on things. But laws and regulations that legitimize structural bigotry....

It's a different and more nuanced position and medical conditions are sort of an unsaid exception to what I would call the "label", I refer more to the brazen "refuse to do anything from quarantining to masking to vaccines" and didn't care how many people they potentially infected while living for their "freedoms". You know, the people you see with like 20 facebook posts about how it's not real and then they're on a ventilator? Those folks.

It's a different group, but the underlying logic is the same. The majority of the people with no real good reason to abstain from the basics were doing so because they didn't like it and didn't really care if people were getting hurt as a result. I've seen enough of your posts about COVID and the vaccine that I respect your position, because you've also been pretty vocal about how it's something that specifically impacts you and isn't a hard line militant position causing more harm than good.

I'm... pretty sure that's basically what I said. Hiding behind the insistence that everyone should just "be tolerant" is how tolerant people allow bigots to occupy a seat at the table of discussion and promote policies that restrain others from eventually having a seat at that same table. The real answer is to swiftly and curtly deny those positions equal time, as they are not conducive to building a more tolerant society.

In this case, for example, I have a profound disrespect for the Texas Rangers refusing to do the bare minimum to advocate for a populace that is having legislature passed against them wherever possible in 2023, and am absolutely not obligated to play fair or "be tolerant" of their decision to do so just so I can cheer them on for winning a trophy. Will it matter? f*** no, even my vote matters more than that in the grand scheme of things.

Does it make me "intolerant" for not setting that all aside to cheer them on? Also f*** no. This is a game, people matter more, and I won't support any cause that actively makes an effort to speak against progress no matter how "minor" or petulant it may be.

I will ask this, in regards to the topic of athletes/sports teams and pride events, why is it necessary to force people who are not LGBTQ+ to participate in a pride event if they don’t want to?

As long as that applies across the board I don't care. Eliminate military appreciation night and police appreciation night and you got yourself a deal.

A virus kills 7 million people globally and some people still think it's some sort of political conspiracy. Some of us have family and friends who died from it.
