Please don't tell me Romero picked up an injury and is still playing...
THe world class CB picked up a knock but didn't seem to bother him later on.

Argentina took care of business always tricky in la Paz but 3-0 probably is too flattering. ADM was the stand out set up 2 goals. Including a sweet pass to Enzo who has more goals for the NT than he has for Chelsea in 2023. It was 3-0 late and Scaloni puts on Lautaro, Paredes and Garnacho who's now officially capped. Life is good. I feel like this is what Evilo feels like so much talent almost everywhere. I'm ready for 2026.

Uruguay vs Ecuador 1-1. Only one chance for Ecuador in the first 30+ minutes with both teams being sloppy. Then Uruguay get the 1st goal (Cannobio) in a moment of clarity (Araujo has been impressive). Then Ecuador tie it up off a corner in the 49th minute. Not sure why there were 4+ minutes added on but I guess it was home team advantage. End of half.

Routine win. But disappointed by Scaloni's substitutions. Bolivia a man down (really should have had another sent off too) are not going to score three to win.

Garnacho is tied but got a measly seven minutes and it would have been a perfect opportunity to bring on Almada, Medina for an Otamendi who is starting to creak. Or have Beltran on the bench to tie him as well given Italy are still sniffing.

Garnacho, Enzo , Julian would have been interesting to see as they play with synergy. Instead once again the usual suspects with Paredes.

Bring Federico Redondo into the squad as well. Superb talent. de Paul seems to believe his own hype. Awful performance from him. So sloppy and careless.

It's 6 points but not that exciting although the team barely got out of second gear for this one and Ecuador parked the train in the first.

Should have been 4 with Eze's chance. Nice assist by Belligham for the third goal. Dunk and Guehi were solid. After seeing them play next to Maguire even Southgate should recognise both are better.

Yeah, I would've liked him to use some new players to help the transition going but Im guessing Scaloni wanted to take no chances and start the qualifiers right. Lisandro in particular needs to start playing more. As Otamendi has already been slowing down and almost cost them in the final had it not been for Emi. Lisandro should start in copa, Perez needs to be included as well in some capacity. Agreed on Beltran especially with Italy sniffing around.

I dont think Redondo will be called up any time soon, Varela is probably next.

Calling it a knock is generous. Full speed stomp on his ankle.
Yup but he didn't seem bothered after. Although he's always picking up these sort of injuries.

Bad defense by Uruguay and they concede the only goal of the half. After the first substitutions by Uruguay the team lost what little focus they had. Very sloppy in the second half.

but get wrecked by Japan and Hungary
Granted they aren't the top well-respected nations, but they are still very good countries. Japan beat Espana and Germany in the last WC. Hungary was a beast in the 2016 Euros along with Iceland. Maybe it was hard to remain that good, but they're still a good nation and are from falling as Greece has done.

I didn't mean any disrespect as both are very capable teams, but there was a clear talent gap between what France & England (or Italy/Spain) put out against us vs what Japan & Hungary did...and it wasn't the more talented of the two groups that destroyed us.

Our problem hasn't been getting outclassed by the big boys. We go toe-to-toe with the top teams just fine. It's been keeping our s*** together and getting results against those 3rd tier NTs that know what they are doing and have some talent, just not enough to even be dark horse contenders.

They weren't anything special if you ask me. Just like Uruguay's best players, they were more noticeable but both teams looked sloppy. But I was also focusing more on Uruguay.

I am enjoying the pre match voyeurism going on checking out the hotties from other countries
I thought they were going to stop doing that? I'm not complaining though...

Nagelsmann has reportedly been convinced to take over the NT through the Euros. Bayern will let him go without a transfer fee and JN himself has taken a pay cut.

Definitely will be curious to see how he does with a NT schedule, at club level he was able to reshape his teams in no time...but without a month long training camp and set roster, who knows how long it'll take him to instill a structure.

Then and there
I'll be surprised if Nagelsmann stays much beyond Euros, regardless whether they do bad or well. Lots of top club teams will be after him in 2025 at the latest.

Yeah. I'd be shocked if he stayed for a full cycle even if he's successful. Would be awesome, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Yeah not a fan for his career as I said.
Best choice for Germany though.
Is it? Seems like a manager that needs a lot more time and training work with his squad then he's ever going to get with the national team to properly employ his set-up. And this is a group that would already benefit from some simplification.

Yes could be. For the DFB, he's still a prime candidate.
But yes, for him, I can't see the upside, barring a miracle.

Take this German side and win the Euros and he's suddenly considered one of the best managers in the world and a national hero.

And winning the Euros wouldn't take a miracle, judging by the last two.
