Given that, in most cases, players playing for their parents' country rather than the country of their birth are choosing to play for the colony rather than the metropole, I don't beef with it. It’s not up to the French to decide that Aouar is insufficiently Algerian or Edouard Mendy is insufficiently Senegalese just because the French drove their parents out of their homelands

I know they didn't just start pitching those players to switch...but Aouar is 24; Gouiri & Adli are 22; Cherki is 19; none of them will be 16yo at the time of their decision.
Aouar I don't have much of a problem with though he's been harassed for years.
Cherki is harassed since he's 16.
Housni is being pressured he turned 17 recently.
Gharbi was pressured at 16.
This has to stop.

Nor is it the African nations (and not just African) role to pressure kids.
Mendy and Aouar aren't kids anymore. Others are.

I can assure you.
If you have 10 minutes to spare I suggest you look for Housni's social medias and mentions.
He's asked a thousand times a day to pick Morocco.
The federations have contacted him a long time ago.

A guy like Ait Nouri has been contacted a dozen times already officially. Aouar even more.

Crazy how hard it is to fill national team vacancies in this day and age. They really had to settle for that donkey?

"He [Zidane] does what he wants, it's none of my business. I've never met him; we've never considered parting with Didier. He can go where he wants, to a club ... If Zidane tried to contact me? Certainly not, I wouldn't even pick up the phone."

"Zidane is France, we don't disrespect the legend like that," Mbappe said on Twitter after Le Graet's interview was aired.

Zidane must have slept with Legraet's wife and/or daughters, the way he flew off the handle unprompted in that interview reveals that there's more than meets the eye going in that situation.

I'm obviously joking about the wife and/or daughters thing. Maybe.

Is there a wider context I'm missing out on here? Seems to me to be clear that he's saying there was never a chance of them moving on from Deschamps? I don't see the issue with Le Graet's comments, and they especially don't seem so egregious as to warrant Real Madrid making an official statement, but Madrid's statement also brought Benz into it, leading me to think there's something bigger here that I'm missing?

Hugo <3. What a fantastic keeper that made some truly incredible saves on the road to the World Cup finals in both 2018 and 2022 and winning in 2018. But most importantly how he became captain during a tough transition period after the fiasco in Knysna in 2010. Congrats on a fantastic career with France, tu nous manqueras Hugo!

Extremely annoying that France could have their captain and starting keeper retire and still get to replace him with an amazing option as skipper (Varane) and an amazing option as keeper (Maignan).

f***ing annoying.

I'm really tired of foreign federation guys putting pressure on 16 year old to declare for the nation of their parents or grand parents where they never lived.
I still think you should prove you lived X years in a country to represent it.
Laporte is more spanish than Aouar is algerian.
You should really back the f*** off with these sorts of statements. I'm pretty sure you don't mean it to be, but it's really offensive. Especially from a Frenchman.

They way he answered it was pretty much a personal attack , there were better ways to answer that question

And this whole thing is just the tree that hides the forest
The French Federation under Le Graet has had a lot of scandals but he and other officials - harassment, pedophilia, racist jokes, etc- have tried hard to sweep under the rug and they fired victims and whistleblowers

And rhen you have racists calling Mbappe names after he missed his penalty in the Euro and Le Graet said it wasn’t because of rhe pen
Even worse, he said there was no racism in football

I'm genuinely shocked that Le Graet hasn't dropped an anti-black or anti-arab slur in public at this point. This dude's a walking disaster every time he opens his mouth.

Le Graet said he wouldn't even pick uo the phone if ZZ phoned.
The guy is an old alcoholic known for covering up scandals and trying to sleep with underage girls.
Add to that that he said in this interview that he and DD were thinking about the candidate for his own succession even though it's supposed to be an election...

I find it really offensive some adults are pressuring some teenagers to declare for a nation they never put a foot in.

That's just BS until proven otherwise.
Lloris has always said he was happy Benz was back.

Lloris is still the best option France has with Maignan injured. He shouldn't have retired just yet, but I get him wanting to focus more on his personal life, and maybe finally winning something with Spurs.

Won't be easy to replace Lloris on the NT.
People here don't seem to realize the level he always had with the NT. Except for a blunder in a WC final with the game won, he didn't make a mistake in any big NT game. Ever. OTOH, he saved their ass multiple times. His save on Uruguay in WC 18 is one for the ages.

What's offensive? Are you serious? Who the hell do you think you are to tell a Franco-Algerian/Moroccan/Wherever else who they are and how close to the culture they are? Do you cook their meals? Share their homes? Raise them? I'm 30 years old and spent my entire life living between the United States and Canada. I've spent numerous summers in Morocco growing up (naturally at my age/responsibilities I can't go for more than a couple weeks at a time). If a f***ing white boy (or anybody else really) tried to tell me how much of a Moroccan I am/am not, I'd tear his ass apart. Period. Don't do it. Tell yourself this: Would you dare speak this way in public? In a Moroccan cafe? You don't know these players' lives or hearts. So you have zero basis to make that sort of judgement call.

I'm sure there's some truth that federations put undue pressure on young players to declare for the country. But you're not fooling anyone. You're not doing this because you actually feel for these kids. You're doing it because you're mad it takes potential players away from France. An advantage that they have strictly because of their colonial past (which now makes me think that whenever you've called it out was nothing but a vapid joke) and that you wish to uphold because you're triggered that a couple of players won't end up playing for France.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Seriously man. You have some serious reflection to do on the kind of person you are. Talking like this over football. Gross. I feel sorry for you (sorta, not really).
