Nathan MacKinnon, on par with the best in business?

What is even the argument for MacKinnon over McDavid?

One has achieved much more in the league. Even last season McDavid posted a playoff run MacKinnon will never match.
and yet still Looked very average in game 7 with the Cup on the line. He us human after all.
I like Mackinnon over McDavid this season. By a nose.

Mackinnon is a great player.
Hasn't done much without the once in a lifetime roster around him that he had in 2022 where he finished 4th in team scoring in the SCF, and third on his team in overall scoring.

I heard he won a Hart and Art Ross last season.

"I don't like McDavid or the Oilers"
Yes, that must be why a person would choose MacK over McDavid. Couldn't be any other reason, like maybe they like the fact MacK has an "edge" to his game, where McDavid is more "finesse". There could be many reason(s) to why people like who they like, just because it isn't your guy does not automatically mean they don't like him or the team. If it was me and I had to choose a player to start my team from, I would go Makar, but I also look at the whole of hockey and not just guys that can put up points. more to hockey than that, but anyways...

Mackinnon isn't looking much better in game 7s. I would take Mack over McDavid on some given nights but McDavid is just much more consistent overall IMO.

I mean yeah he's a great player but I'm not even sure this season is better than last. He's on pace for less than 30 goals. Drai has been playing excellent this year and so has Kuch. Not sure he's separated himself from tier 1B yet.

Good points.
I'm the Mackinnon over McDavid guy.....if I could only have one.
Oilers vs Aves? I'll pull for Oilers like I did in 22.

Weird that this even needs to be asked. IMO. he is #2 behind McDavid. Then Kuch then Drai
There really isn't a sound argument for what he has done to create any separation from Kucherov. Objectively, McDavid has an argument over every player in the league. MacKinnon doesn't really have a strong argument for being better than a handful of players(Kucherov, McDavid, Matthews)

I don't know... I mean he WAS a non-factor for the first two and a half periods of game 7 of this year's SCF. Florida made a coaching adjustment and stuck a guy to him just as he was entering the offensive blue line, so he wasn't able to generate any speed while entering the offensive zone. At some point he made the adjustment and started accelerating in the neutral zone, but there was only about 10 minutes left in the third period when he started getting going.

If your point was, "well he required a coaching adjustment from Florida so by definition that means he was a huge factor," of course you're right but Florida was able to shut him down for the most part whenever the series was close, which I think is more important.

MacKinnon's a different beast altogether. Even if you stop him scoring, he'll still contribute physically and have an impact on the game. Obviously both these players are paid to put up points (and McD is better at that) but I think I'd rather have MacK on my team a playoff must win if I'm being honest, he's right there offensively and has other relevant ways to impact the game. Can't go wrong with either player though
Agree. In a big game/ series.

Mack over McD
Mario over Wayne
Sid over OV

McDavid literally just won the Smyth on a losing team.....replace him with literally anyone and they still lose that series.
Yes. He was and is Fantastic. I watched the entire series.
This season I still take Mack over McD. If I was starting a team and could only pick one of them
You wouldn't. I get that.
Cheers
