Leaf fan here. I'm gonna be as brutally honest with Clarkson as I can be. He's a great person and does a lot of charity work off the ice and seems like a quality human being off it.

Unfortunately, he is godawful as a hockey player. Trust me when you are going to have drinking games seeing how many times he falls down or does silly useless wraparounds for no reason and are likely going to be smashed by the end of the 1st when participating. He is pretty much a good 3rd liner if he can put it back together (meaning his career average of ~30 pts) and will never be worth what he's paid. I know it's not what you wanna hear, but I think you'll appreciate the fair warning in due time.

Anyways, I wish Clarkson nothing but the best as a Jacket and hope he does turn it around for you guys.

I'm actually more outraged that it'd been floated out there by Portzline that the team had insurance on Horton.

Now? well that was never the case.

Why say it if you can't confirm it?

He's a bottom 6 player that will probably be mandated to play in the top 6 because we're paying him $5m, taking a spot away from much better players.

He'll get chances to play big minutes, certainly. And he should. But coaches rarely play favourites this way. Relax -- this is a good trade for Columbus. I don't think too many of you were complaining about Horton's contract. How many of you even knew it wasn't insured?

I was completely taken aback until I saw the "contract uninsured" news. That takes this from "I think I want get JK fired" to "Oh. OH! Smart move."

Let's hope he does better without the absurd media pressure.

Looks snakebit rather than sucky. Fingers crossed.

He should be fired for not having insurance on Horton's contract. This is purely a choose your poison situation

I'm happy, NOBODY on here EVER thought we would get so much as a bag of used pucks for Horton and nobody knew we didn't have insurance so whatever Clarkson produces is more than Horton would have for the same cost. He is a gritty guy that will go to the net, fight and obviously has talent since he scored 30 goals before. He didn't fit in with Toronto, now he gets a fresh start with a team more suited to his skill set. I think it's fantastic, my kinda player!

Well it was nice not being the laughing stock of HF for few years. This put us back squarely in possession of that title if the thread on the mains is any evidence.

I have no problems with the move , and think it signals we will be going after a top 6 player , instead of paying Horton to never play again . Maybe clarkson thrives. We unloaded umberger last year for hartnall. So jarmo has been creative in the past . Let's see all the moves before we judge

well lets hold out a small bit of hope that Clarkson goes back to his NJ ways being in a more physical system.... there is a little... maybe.
Hartnell and Clarkson on a line.... Maybe Hartnell could make him an honorary member of Hartnell down

From an outsiders perspective on just judging the personal..

Clarkson, Hartnell, Foligno, Dubinsky, Johansen and Anisimov are all big sized players, minus the last two you have a lot of muscle and snarl.

Nice thing to have.

They're ignorant. This trade is sensible and logical in a way no normal trade could be. The outcome is largely known -- how Clarkson performs is almost secondary.
