This has to be a joke or a pick coming our way? Only thing I can see is maybe cbj retain salary and trade clarkson to a team? :help:

It's been reported that Horton's contract wasn't insured. This move had to be made. He had to go to a cap starved team. The CBJ get back a player, at least.

Wow.. Just wow.

Well, Jarmo needed something to cover the stink of the Boll contract, he out did himself. Only good thing is it really didnt cost us anything except having to have an albatross contract for the next 5 years. Now we have the 2 worst contracts in the NHL, nice job Jarmo

I'd rather pay Horton not to play. At least that opens up a spot on the roster for someone who is good. Clarkson is just going to take a spot that should go to someone who is actually good.

Clarkie is a good dude, and was a fan favorite in NJ. He's strong on the boards, and is good in front of the net. He's an extremely hard working player, and can excel in the right situation.

He can't pass and can't skate though.

Can't expect Clarkson to produce without skilled player(s) on his line, so it would be a terrible move to play him in the bottom six. He's one of the worst skaters i've ever seen and can't create chances on his own. If you guys have a good playmaker I hope for the team's sake he's put with Clarkson.

You know, I might get flamed for saying it, but I kinda like it too.

He was never as bad as advertised here. He's obviously more useful than someone on KTIR and he competes. He was miscast and overpaid and he was roasted for it.

Character guy who will battle for his teammates.

My thoughts.

"What? We.. wait we got someone to take Nate? What? Wait what? We traded for Clarkson? What? We actually took on Clarkson? I... wait what? Nate for him? Him for Nate? Einhorn is Finkle! Finkle is Einhorn! I... what?"

Kekalainen on Horton: "We would have been paying him $26 million the next five years to sit in the stands."

In case you were wondering if he would ever play agan, here's your answer. Nope
Jarmo is looking like a terrible GM, with Gaborik, the length of Horton's contract, trading for Clarkson and taking on that contract. Geez, never say it cant get any worse. I dont care about his drafting, give us a freaking GM that knows how to be a GM

"Clarkson tried to wraparound but he didn't have the puck"

Jim Hughson said that on HNiC broadcast in the last game Leafs played. It effectively sums up his tenure with Leafs.

I wish nothing but success for him. I won't be mad if he scored 30 again with you guys. He sucked real bad on most nights, but one could never fault him for not trying. Hence, I have nothing but good wishes for him.

This didn't make sense to me either until I considered that Columbus doesn't spend to the cap anyway, and Horton's contract isn't insured. You guys are getting a player for your money instead of a hole in your lineup, and Toronto is getting cap space. This trade makes a lot of sense, and the grown men that made it aren't idiots.

Did we get a 1st too? This might be the worst trade we have ever made.

Why? You'd rather pay a guy $5 mill a year to sit on his couch or to a guy who scored 30 goals three years ago and hope he returns to form. Yea he was a dud for the leafs, but everyone is a dud for the leafs!

Actually, yes, I would. This was a TERRIBLE trade. I don't look at it as paying Horton not to play. I look at it as Clarkson taking the spot of someone who can actually play.

I don't want to be that guy but if you want to read something about Clarkson this article does the best job,

http://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/2015/1/22/7867635/david-clarkson-is-a-balrog-he-cannot-pass

It is long. It is in depth. It has facts. It is something you do NOT want to read, unless you want more reasons as to why this trade is so awful for Columbus.

You have been warned.

Why is the trade awful? It isn't money, since the player's salaries are about equal,Horton's contract wasn't insured, and Columbus has plenty of excess cap space. It isn't quality, because you're shipping out a player who will never play again for one who will. What specifically about this trade bothers you?

He's a bottom 6 player that will probably be mandated to play in the top 6 because we're paying him $5m, taking a spot away from much better players.
