I don't think there's really any chance at all that they're going into next year as an appreciably younger team. That's completely off the table based on the behavior of Trotz/Brunette over the last 12 months, in my opinion.Im gonna wait and see what happens between now and July 2nd to get a better idea of what this roster is going to look like. Alot can happen after that buti cant wait that long to start forming an opinion.
There is a scenario where they're still old, but possibly improve, but It won't be easy. McDonagh was actually really, really good last year after struggling with Hynes. Now they have to replace him just to be back at square one. Not one single young player made any noteworthy improvement at the NHL level last year and plenty of old guys stayed healthy and had career years, or close to it. But there are some very good players available, so maybe we'll see some big additions.
I'm not optimistic at all, but I'd be very happy to be wrong.
