Y'all get together and decide who you want to run off next, pool your money, and send it to me for the next Hockey Fights Cancer auction. My last two purchases were Carrier and Tolvanen. Novak better watch his ass.

Sadly, Bruno won't have a jersey there...

If you have a crystal ball right now. 5 years down the road who is the core of this team? Is that what we are seeing right now just jettisoning bottom six and defense at the same time. Could it be that Trotz only sees the young guys in the pipeline as the future bottom guys?

Even the guys with movement clauses have to be reconsidering. Stammer and March did not come in to set thru a rebuild, like us they thought the roster could compete this year. Then you have Josi, Forsberg, Saros . Josi will retire here but the other two are on their last impactful contracts. These are the chips Trotz needs to use to bring in futures, to hell with drafting and developing that has been a failing approach for this organization. The glaring mistake so far has been moving Askarov, the potential succession to the goalie situation. Trotz could end up with a Dan Ellis Chris Mason Anders Lindback situation.

Somewhere Trotz needs to find just one future core guy to quell the Indians that are on the warpath.

I'm probably putting too much weight on it, but that last season under Poile still rubs me the wrong way. It was the perfect opportunity to go in day one and integrate some of our own. There was a stockpile of kids and some of them had done adequately the season before.

But Hynes told Poile he couldn't win that way. He needed veteran players. So Poile went out grocery shopping and brought in a bunch of tweeners and stocked the roster with those guys. The kids all got sent back to Milwaukee. And when the results started coming back, that effort was a waste. We ended up gutting the roster at the TDL and forcing Hynes to play the kids, and lo and behold, the kids almost righted the ship.

So, yeah, I'm actually not sure Poile had that much of a plan. He drafted BPA, tried to bring kids up through Milwaukee the old fashioned way, and trusted his coach to tell him what ingredients were best.

When I look at Dallas, I don't see that. Whether it is just that they develop guys better or their scouts are 1000 times smarter than ours or both, they still figure out ways of having kids entering into the lineup and veterans retire or run out a contract. And, it just flat out works. They're not on the Buffalo "must tank for 20 years" way of doing things. They just plug and chug and keep winning.
Poile has always been consistent from day one, he generally drafted and signed the kind of players his coaches wanted in their system and structure.

During Trotz tenure he drafted a lot of safe two way forwards, when Lavi got here he started trying to find more high flying, skilled forwards, and then when Hynes got here he started to more or less change course yet again.

Poile always tried to get the kind of players a coach wanted, but they weren't always available or busted. If Poile could have gotten 12 Mike Fishers then he would have because Trotz would have been as happy as a kid at Chucky Cheese.
