Dolly Parton called Trotz and convinced him to trade for Sidney Crosby. Bruno plans to run him with McCarron and Smith. So what did I miss?
I was thinking about sending out a search party for you.So what did I miss?
I was trying to represent Fabbro, apparently, I failed....I was thinking about sending out a search party for you.
6 games left, another point tonight, currently 28th with games still going on. .382 point percentage. Winning out gets us 25 points, wildcard 2 is currently at 19 points.7 games left. 1 point tonight moves us to a four way tie for last and a .375 point percentage.
I can't find the exact quote right now but a couple weeks ago Trotz mentioned that Svechkov will likely be in the NHL in the near future but they wanted him to get his legs back first since he was hurt in camp. I'd expect we probably see him sometime soon.At what point does Trotz give Svechkov a shot? I wouldn't move Parssinen off of the line with Tomasino and Evangelista, which still leaves a void at 2C. Sissons ain't getting it done. I get kids need to develop. At the same time, we need to see if he can play at this level. He'll have Gus on a wing, who is defensively responsible. He'll have March on the other wing so he'll have a veteran presence on the line that would probably welcome a playmaker and some youthful legs.
While it was nice that McC and Smith scored last night, the team has to start figuring out a way to squeeze them out of the lineup.
I do think the kid line has energized this team to some degree. I think ZLH is starting to use his speed more in the last couple of games because he's gotten used to the speed of the game at this level. He's going to need to get off that 4th line at some point and he's working towards it. Problem is, there's a logjam of wingers ahead of him on the depth chart at the moment. I expect next year he'll be in the top 9.
Back to the original question, how long before Svechkov gets a shot?
If he's playing great, why keep him in the AHL? Seems counterproductive. If we're not going anywhere, get him up to speed on what it's like playing in the NHL rather than waiting for a spot to open up. If he's good enough to displace someone, I don't care if the team is or isn't going anywhere, he deserves the spot.Svechkov is playing great. Id personally keep him down in the AHL until we sell off some parts though. I dont see a need to rush him in when this team isnt going anywhere and i dont think he is the difference between making the playoffs and missing it.
What happens when Novak comes back? The kid line looks good and i wouldnt mess with it but even when they provide almost half the teams SOG against edmonton they get the least amount of TOI. Do we think Bruno will actually keep it together? Does Jankowski get to tag back in with Novak? Does Novak get another look with Stamkos and Marchessault now that the rest of the lines are settling out.... but then what to do with sissons? Alot of moving pieces without throwing another piece into it. If we sell of Nyquist at the deadline and maybe another forward then that gives plenty of space for Svechkov to come in and the remaining pieces scramble around.
Throwing him into the 2nd line horrorshow probably doesnt help his confidence and disrupting the other lines that are working is counterproductive. I just dont see a need to move him up until we start moving pieces. Move Nyquist and Sissons at the deadline (or before if we continue to suck) and that creates upward mobility for Svechkov to come up and Novak to turn into a winger. If he's playing great, why keep him in the AHL? Seems counterproductive. If we're not going anywhere, get him up to speed on what it's like playing in the NHL rather than waiting for a spot to open up. Guys shouldn't lose spots when they get injured, already happened with Novak once. On the flip side, if he comes in and plays well and Novak seems to find his game again, maybe you move Sissons for some other pieces you may need or you move him to the fourth line and other guys to the bench.
Literally naming the only reasons we got a point last nightI can't find the exact quote right now but a couple weeks ago Trotz mentioned that Svechkov will likely be in the NHL in the near future but they wanted him to get his legs back first since he was hurt in camp. I'd expect we probably see him sometime soon.
Squeezing McCarron and Smith out of the lineup is fine with me but end of the day we need way more out of every single on of our top players. As long as they continue to play this poorly everything else is putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound.
Bringing up/playing prospects now isn't about salvaging the season, this one is gone. It's about transition into the future. Svechkov can come up while Novak is out, play 2C, and move Sissons or McC to the bench for a bit. Svechkov can always be sent back down once Novak gets back if it's the appropriate thing to do, or send McCarron to the A.Svechkov is playing great. Id personally keep him down in the AHL until we sell off some parts though. I dont see a need to rush him in when this team isnt going anywhere and i dont think he is the difference between making the playoffs and missing it.
