Going back to the 19/20 season, here are the results of our games vs Edmonton in Bridgestone, starting with this year:

L 1-5
L 2-4
L 1-6
L 3-6
W 4-3 (OT)
L 0-4
L 3-8

1-6 record with the one win in OT

14 goals scored/ 36 goals allowed

Just unbelievably pathetic and embarrassing
Wonder if Draisaitl has scored more than we have in that streak.

I suppose we'll know for sure tomorrow but looks like we're just going to keep doing the same thing and hope it magically works.

Also Brunette had this to say about the 4th liners:
"It's our job to try and reset them here a little bit, figure some things out," Brunette said. "Nothing really is working anywhere. So to put any kind of blame on (the fourth line) is not even close to being fair."

Which is interesting since that logic rarely seems to apply to younger players. Also, while it is fair to say the 4th line shouldn't be the only ones getting blame it's insane to say they shouldn't receive any criticism especially when McCarron, Smith, and Sissons are 1st, 3rd, and 4th respectively in terms of GA/60 for players with >3 GP. No one else in the league outside of Kevin Hayes has played that poorly and been able to consistently stay in the lineup.
No confidence that Brunette has a clue. Why are we playing Parssinen at wing when you have Sissons on the 2nd and it hasn't had any form of chemistry at all?

Hell, why is Stamkos on the 2nd as well with no form or chemistry with anyone while also logging the 3rd most TOI among forwards and having the worst shooting percentage of anyone on the team with a goal (shoutout to Josi leading the team in shots with no goals).

Move Gus back to the 1st line, play Marchy, Novak/Parsnip, Evangelista/Tomasino as the 2nd, and let Stamkos skate with the 4th line or sheltered 3rd line minutes til he gets his shit together.

I'm really critical of the roster build right now fitting the coach, but then Bruno just makes really stupid lineup choices that don't seem to fit with his purported style either.

It pains me to write this, but with a few small exceptions this team is playing like hot garbage right now. Is it Bruno with the mixology? The continued lack of accountability to vets who should know better like McCarron and Janko? Is this team as built just a zero chemistry crew?
I would like to think the pros would have done some soul searching before now, but with the exception of Marchy, nobody comments about it in public. I mean, what is going on in that room???

You can't have any real accountability when your captain and star UFA signing are among the worst performers on the season and still are atop the TOI charts every game.

I think it's time to consider stripping Josi of the captaincy. We haven't played with the same intensity under his tenure, and I think it's a one of the last levers Bruno has to pull before he gets the axe. Give the C to O'Reilly - at least he's busting his rear every night.

Comes up every year til we go on a bender (and then fade again in the postseason). I have long been in agreement. We haven't had that consistent intensity for any extended stretch since Weber or Fisher were captains.

We're a team chock full of vets who are underperforming. If they need someone to ra-ra them into skating hard then we have deeper problems so sure take Josi's captaincy but don't expect it to do anything. FWIW every time this comes up I like to remind people that Weber's tenure here ended with one of the worst performances I've ever seen put up by him (granted Josi was equally bad) and we had the most notable example of guys screwing around (Kostitsyn and Radulov) under his leadership so I don't buy he had some special sauce we've been missing ever since.

While I don't love Pärssinen at wing, I'd keep the trio of him, Novak and Evangelista together at least for a couple of games. They looked really good last night but got cut off after McCarron was benched.

This isn't on Josi. He's playing a ton of minutes because that's the coach's choice. He'd be better served by having Fabbro and MDG in the lineup and spreading the minutes out. Heck, roll with 7 d-men and spread the minutes out. I think we played better with 11 forwards once McCarron was sat. Unfortunately, ZLH and Smith ended up sitting most of the time because the other 9 players were actually playing with some pace and zip to their game. It didn't amount to anything on the score sheet which sucked.

At the end of the day, whatever system is being used is not a fit for the players we've assembled and while I'm all for playing a coach's style, if you don't have the horses, you have to play a different style. If it means playing more defensively oriented, then do that because what we're all seeing 5 on 5 is not working. Funny how the PK has been as good as it's been yet even strength is abysmal. It's counterintuitive and makes absolutely no sense.

Here's the thing, if you're not getting the results with the players you're currently playing, try different players, try different lines.

According to Mason on the radio today it isn't that the team is too slow to play Brunette's system, its that they are making the wrong decisions or are too slow making those decisions.

There are definitely a lot of bad decisions being made, but when you see almost all of your Dmen making the same bad decision that's a coaching problem, plain and simple.
