I'd be nice to see Bruno actually use the in-house center (Parssinen) and actually give him a chance before any potential trade. Though if we do try to acquire someone for that 2C spot, Nelson or Frost might be a solid gamble.

Trying to look for silver linings. Trotz being a new GM and also taking over a team at a crossroads, the potential for f***ing up was pretty high. I think he did f*** up, but credit him for trying to do something bold and also not setting our capital back in the process.

I think the only move that will really hurt is Askarov, and even then Saros should be pretty good for several years still and I have faith in org for identifying and developing goalies. Still a lot of draft capital, still a lot of younger guys, and our long-term cap situation is ok. Firing Bruno is fine, but please no panic trades and throwing away assets.

Yeah, at least the FAs only cost us cap. I'm glad Trotz at least tried and I admire that.

I was just thinking a bit and say we sat the Big Sexy and Smith and played Tomasino/Parsnip and went with some variation of:
FF9-ROR-Marchy
Luke-Parsnip-Tomasino
ZLH-Sizzler-Jank
Stamkos-Novak-Gus

Who penalty kills? Sissons, ROR, Jank, Gus, FF9? I'm not sure any of the others really can, or at least well. Is that enough?

This roster is just...not well constructed in a loy of ways.

I think you'd have to use a couple of the younger guys in the mix. ZLH, LE, JP, and/or PT would have to step up and the new coach would have to be willing to roll the dice with putting them out there...

It's an issue but is giving up goals on the PK really any worse than them giving up 3 goals a night 5v5?. At least the PK you can negate by limiting penalties.

1/8th of the season in the books.

You're only in trouble if you aren't in the playoffs picture on American Thanksgiving.

I know everyone wants a #2C but we need defensemen that want to play defense more than anything else. Until that is fixed, we are up a creek.

We went from a D that had:
Josi, Subban/Weber, Ekholm, Ellis
and then some scrubs in Irwin and Benning

To a D that has:
Schenn, Lauzon, Carrier, MDG, Fabbro and then a useful player in Skjei and a star in Josi

That's a drastic fall for that group and so un-Predslike, but it could make sense if the forwards were dramatically better but really are they? I don't think so, and if Saros isn't in god mode, it just doesn't work.

Doesn’t help that Josi has been pretty garbage this season too.

I was skeptical of his play last season, but Pars showed me last night that he deserves to be in this lineup full time. Each line he was on dominated play.

I agree with the other assessments - I'd add a defenseman to this team before doing anything else
Agreed, play Parssinen at center dangit! You ain't gotta put him with Forsberg and Marchessault, but your 2nd line is doing jack and squat anyways, it can't get a whole lot worse. He may have some flaws, but he hasn't played so that is expected.

I'm hoping being McCarron finally crapped the bed so bad that Brunette had no choice but to sit him that maybe, just maybe, he will finally do what he should have done 5 games ago. Put Sissons on the 4th, put Parssinen on the 2nd, sit McCarron. If you don't think Tomasino can do anything on the 4th then leave ZLH there and put Tomasino on the 3rd, but personally I think Novak and Evangelista need someone to go to the net, and ZLH has shown he is willing to do that.

Near where sand and waves meet.
The thing is removing Smith and McCarron might reduce our GA 5v5 pretty dramatically. One or both of them have been on the ice for 53% of our 5 v 5 GA which is just wild.
That might get the team the SEA or EDM game. McCarron on ice for 5 GA in the SEA game (Josi, Parssinen, Sissons all on ice for 4 that night) ... then two games with two ES GA. Smith on ice for 3 ES GA in both of the EDM games ... 2 GA in the SEA game.

The shockers at ES are Sissons with 4 GA in one game, 3 in two others, then on ice for a deuce against ... Stamkos not just without an ES goal yet but no plus games as a Pred ... Forsberg a -3 in the Tampa game while the 4th line wasn't on the ice for any goals against.

Our worst players in terms of even strength TOI per even strength goal against are

Parssinen
McCarron
Sissons
Smith
Tomasino
Josi
Skjei
Forsberg
Carrier
Nyquist
Stamkos
Fabbro

So it kindof narrows down to:
1st line, 4th line, and people that rotate in with Josi (or get jerked around alot).

Parssinen's got submarined by 1 game with the 4th line.

Best 4 are Jankowski, L'Heureux, Schenn, and Del Gaizo.

The top line is generating some offense to counteract their goals against whereas the bottom and second lines are just bleeding goals against without scraping any back.

I suppose we'll know for sure tomorrow but looks like we're just going to keep doing the same thing and hope it magically works.

Also Brunette had this to say about the 4th liners:
"It's our job to try and reset them here a little bit, figure some things out," Brunette said. "Nothing really is working anywhere. So to put any kind of blame on (the fourth line) is not even close to being fair."

Which is interesting since that logic rarely seems to apply to younger players. Also, while it is fair to say the 4th line shouldn't be the only ones getting blame it's insane to say they shouldn't receive any criticism especially when McCarron, Smith, and Sissons are 1st, 3rd, and 4th respectively in terms of GA/60 for players with >3 GP. No one else in the league outside of Kevin Hayes has played that poorly and been able to consistently stay in the lineup.

Going back to the 19/20 season, here are the results of our games vs Edmonton in Bridgestone, starting with this year:

L 1-5
L 2-4
L 1-6
L 3-6
W 4-3 (OT)
L 0-4
L 3-8

1-6 record with the one win in OT

14 goals scored/ 36 goals allowed

Just unbelievably pathetic and embarrassing
