I'm not sure we have any openings in training camp... I guess injuries could always happen. But it looks like we are basically at the Cap limit with a 22-man 13/7/2 roster (at least until the Johansen case is resolved). I'm sure we'll see variations in terms of line combinations relative to below, but just in terms of listing out the roster...

2024-25 Nashville Predators

Forsberg ($8.5M) - O'Reilly ($4.5M) - Nyquist ($3.185M)
Stamkos ($8M) - Novak ($3.5M) - Marchessault ($5.5M)
Evangelista ($0.7975M) - Sissons ($2.857M) - Parssinen ($0.775M)
Jankowski ($0.800M) - McCarron ($0.900M) - Smith ($1M)
Tomasino ($0.825M)

Skjei ($7M) - Josi ($9.059M)
Lauzon ($2M) - Carrier ($3.75M)
Stastney ($0.825M) - Fabbro ($2.5M)
Schenn ($2.75M)

Saros ($5M)
Wedgewood ($1.5M)

Ekholm retention: $0.250M
Johansen retention: $4M (???)
Turris Buyout: $2M
Duchene Buyout: $5.5556M

TOTAL: $87.3291M
2024-25 NHL Cap: $88M
REMAINING CAP SPACE: $0.6709M

Bummer about Stastney. I guess the bright side is he has his waiver exemption still so he has the option to get up to speed in Milwaukee when he's ready to play again. Big opportunity for Molendyk and Del Gaizo now too to try and make the team out of camp. Molendyk can still play 9 NHL games before having to make a decision on juniors right?

A few notes on lines from what I see on twitter this morning:

Forsberg-O'Reilly-Nyquist
Stamkos-Novak-Marchessault

Skjei-Josi
2 pretty no-brainer lines to start with.

1 that carried the load last season
1 with Novak at center with a proper assortment of wingers.

It is a good place to start. Probably gonna see all sorts of combinations though.

Anything on the bottom 6?

Nothing yet but it seems like they are having three different groups practicing so not sure if everyone has even been on the ice yet.
This is a huuuuuuuge opportunity for Novak. If he can hold that spot, it could be career-defining for him.
Centering two of the top 15 goal scorers from last season is a pretty dramatic step up from Jankowski and Evangelista. The other aspect is I'm assuming that line is going to get more favorable matchups versus the O'Reilly line.

I bet novak gets 10 mins a night and Sissons gets time on that line as well

Update according to Daugherty:

Tomasino Sissons Evangelista
L'Heureux McCarron Smith

Gotta start somewhere.
I mostly agree with Trotz here actually. Good teams can make it out of the first round fairly consistently, but after that it does seem to depend a bit on matchups, injury luck, or just having the margins go your way in a hard fought series.

Think id rather have Pärssinen in over McCarron.... especially if L'Heureux is tagged in. But overall dont hate it.

Yeah although I expect that the top two lines will stay the same barring struggles by Novak and we'll see a lot of rotation in the bottom lines for a while. Not sure who Parsinnen and Jankowski were playing with today either. I feel like L'Hereux could be good on that 4th line but I also kind of worry we may pigeonhole him as a grinder type when he's shown more offensive flair.

I mean, if we're allowed to scratch Jankowski and McCarron, I'm all for something like...
L'Heureux - Sissons - Evangelista
Smith - Parssinen - Tomasino

... well this isn't just scratching Jankowski, it's actually waiving him since we don't have the Cap to carry 14 forwards. I guess unless you went 14/6/2 with Stastney out. Anyway, it's a long ways off. Mix and match the bottom-6 however you like for now. I'm sure whatever we sketch out here is not going to make a bit of difference. Brunette will come up with something that nobody agrees with! :sarcasm:

I get the expectations set to us in the upcoming season, but me personally, I don't know how good we're honestly going to be this year. I mean, yeah, we made some solid acquisitions over the summer and I do like the approach that if you're not going to rebuild you should always be going for it but I'm not as sold as some previews for the season are.

First of all, the guys we brought in are older veterans so if things start to go sideways early on, how much "extra" are those guys willing to pitch in to right the ship.

I do believe we're going to make the playoffs or at least be in the mix but I just don't see us having a set in the contender table when it comes to the West. When you make the post-season, anything can obviously happen but we've said that for pretty much the existence of this franchise and only 1 time it has almost "happened".

Not that I'm confident on this but I kind of expect Jankowski to start in Milwaukee. There's little threat of a waiver claim and it seems like recent M.O. is for him to play in Milwaukee till he replaces whatever young guy Fs up or upsets the coaching staff enough to get benched or demoted.

I wish I could believe that. Of course, Jankowski did play very competently for us last season after he came up, albeit elevated into roles that maybe are above his station. Just I feel that is the absolute high water mark for whatever he could ever bring. And yes, I'd still rather see any of Tomasino, Parssinen, or L'Heureux getting a chance to potentially bring us more. Still on that. I just can't for the life of me imagine Brunette/Trotz going that direction. They gave Jank a 2-year 1-way contract, I take that as a Vote Of Confidence at full face value. :dunno:

Could be. They've also given 1 way deals to such luminaries as Jordan Gross, so I don't know that it's conclusive. But yeah I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see Jank all year. You could do worse, anyway.

Jankowski and McCarron have spent most of his recent career bouncing between AHL and NHL. I dont think either gets picked up especially with 2 year 1 way contracts. McCarron has been more of a locker room glue guy though. But i think push comes to shove L'Heureux gets sent down since he is exempt unless he absolutely nails it this preseason.

It's "easy" to go that route. Overcook the raw meat. I'm not at all sure there is any amount of "killing it" that would get L'Heureux in at this point. Injuries could... we still have a very old lineup.

I dont think another year would overcook L'Heureux. He still legitimately could use some discipline when it comes to running his mouth.
