GDT: Nashville Predators at Los Angeles Kings - January 3, 2015 - 1:00 p.m. (PST)

Lost in all the excitement, Jamie McBain got a point and was +1 in a game where the Kings gave up 7 goals, playing nearly 16 minutes. McBain!

Kopi, Marty, King...:handclap: King with 6 SOG, twice the number of the next highest players.

Carter 73% at the face-off dot.

Carter and Gaborik getting on the board offensively, letting Nashville get on the board defensively.

Doughty and Muzzin playing a lot of minutes and it shows.

Quick is having a tough time lately. In his last 4 games, he's faced 61 shots, and given up 9 goals, for a .852sv%. In his last 10 games, 27ga on 209 shots, a .871sv%. At .894% in his last 20.

No single player is completely responsible for every stat he has. It's a team game. Some of the goals Quick has given up were on defensive breakdowns, just bad bounces, etc. Usually it just takes more shots to get as many breaks going against you.

Another window into the Kings struggles this season. Another reason why they can't get any sort of momentum going. They haven't won 3 straight since Nov 15-Nov 20. They've won 2 in a row twice since then, but also lost 2 in a row 3 times, and lost 3 in a row once in that time. They're 8-7-5 in the 20 games since. Not playing themselves out of anything, but also not getting any traction. Just plodding along.

DD manages to slide all the way to minus 4 in this game, only to bring it back to minus 1, and then in overtime finish at minus 2. Somewhat of a roller coaster! He's all over the place, and Muzzin isn't much better. He dipped to minus 3 and one point in this game. I'm starting to not like this pairing. Muzzin has an offensive upside as well, but when they are together now, who covers for who? On the Preds sixth goal, at one point on the forechecking, they were both practically standing next to each other on the Preds goal line next to Rinne, and the play went 180 feet the other way. Muzzin got beat to the puck and no one in position back checking to clear the monster rebound. Sure we were down by 3, but one of these two needs to be at home!

Kings got a point, pretty much all I care about in a cluster of a game that was. Kings on pace for 95 points, starting to look a little dicey.

Need at least Five regulation wins this home-stand.

Terrible way to start the home-stand boy's, terrible.

Herby's Green Jacket award update:

Brown -9 (Still leading the way Capt, atta boy).
Richards -8 (Catching the Capt).
Muzzin -6 (Trending the wrong way Muzz)
King -6 (King is headed the right way, off the list).
Kopitar -4 (Kopi wasn't going to stay on the list all season).

Also the Kings are about to fall out of the Top Ten in Defense.

Chicago is the best Defensive team in the league.

You responded to yourself with the reason why that happened...you can't pretend that's not an incredibly rare occurrence!

It's a great pairing, just needs the minutes managed better.

There are really not many takeaways from that circus. Our problems are still our problems, nothing changed, and the positives are still the positives, it was just one of those random "what the hell is happening?" games that happens like three times a season. Like an 8-1 blowout, you don't bother examining it. Look at Darryl dicking around in the press conference, he doesn't care.

We got 1 more point than 80% of us thought we would get at the beginning of the game and than 99% of us thought throughout the game

This is troubling.

The sixth goal I'm referring to at the time the Kimgs were down by 2 with 12 min left. The loose play made it 3. I'm not answering myself, or at least I didn't intend to. I agree the minutes need to go down, but then along with that some responsible and accountable play. There's no reason to be running around when you're down by 2 with 12 minutes to play! Once it reached 3, and the minutes ticked off, sure do what you have to do.

Well, I havent tuned in for a Kings' win in like 3 weeks now. And this was actually the first game in that stretch of time where they lost and I didn't get watch, so naturally it was a good one. **** my life.

You could have been a loser like me and turn it off when it was 6-3 right after nashville scored in the 3rd. Came on the computer about 5 hours later to see it made it to overtime. I feel ashamed.

And furthermore, my gf was updating me while I was driving. She told me it was over and they'd lost 5-3 or some such nonsense. Only tonight, now that I'm home, did I realize what actually went down! I've been so far removed from the pulse of the action over the holidays. Grrrr!
