When you need to win the game and put Dwight King in the shootout.

Just Sutter things.

As I said earlier in this thread, the only time I heard or even noticed King was even playing was in the final minute of the game...he was that invisible. Why reward him in the shootout ?

Sorry, did you miss the Dallas & Preds game? He was garbage in both and has only showed up for a handful of the games so far this season.

I did not miss those games. I think you're blowing it out of proportion.

I don't know why people are wailing about his contract right now. Big picture -- he had a slow start and an injury and is getting better. And passengers don't have that amount of defensive responsibility put on their plates.

The Kings won't find anyone better than Kopitar, so, he's going to get all the money he wants. Obviously the Kings and Kopitar have been doing something right, and he's more than just goals and points. However, I don't know if there's another player of his caliber that can just sort of, blend in, as much as he does.

Can they use this move in the shootout?

Any word on Martinez? I haven't heard anything in awhile.

From today's practice report by the Insider:

-A day after wearing a red no-contact jersey, Alec Martinez participated in the morning skate. He remained on the ice for extra work and conditioning, so he’s out for tonight’s game. While the last two days represented a step forward in his recovery, he reiterated that there’s “no timetable†for his return.

“It’s getting better every day,†he said. “These things have just got to heal.â

I didn't like the lines tonight. Gaborik proving he's even more dynamic on his off wing. Maybe he stays on his right?

I didn't either. The Brown line is fine but I'd make some changes.

Lewis-Carter-Gaborik
Toffoli-Richards-Pearson
Brown-Stoll-Williams
Nolan/Andreoff-Kopitar-King
Clifford

That 4th line needs to wake the **** up.

Thanks. It's amazing how less dynamic the Kings are now. No Voynov, Mitchell, Martinez. We use to beat forchecking pressure without a sweat.

They thought it broke the tension too much

I thought that was only for the OT not the shootout. I don't think anyone ever complained about the dry scrape before the SO. Tonight was an example of why it should be done only for the shootout. That puck was hopping all over the place.

From the post game comments posted so far, none of the questions to sutter involved why King was used in the Shootout. However, Sutter did mention that the lack of S/O goals cost them.

From the INsider:

On how “complete†of a road performance the Kings had:
It’s a hard-fought point. We have to start scoring some shootout goals. It cost us on the road.

Maybe he was banking on Rinne dropping over in shock and King netting en empty netter....
There were better options...

Points or not, I'm more concerned about only having 1 road win. Even EDM and BUF have more wins than us, how sad is that?

Well... EDM doesn't have a win against a western conference team yet.. so the Kings still got that...

Lines were fine. Gaborik and Carter need to play together more. Brown/Stoll/Williams works... shouldn't be touched... just put the rest of the guys together and stop playing with it so they can get some chemistry....

King in the shootout.. He has a couple shootout goals actually so it isn't as crazy as someone like Lewis. Big one against the Ducks last year.... Good not to put Pearson in there... don't want his head getting too big though..

Biggest problem was getting clean breakouts and leaving the d-zone.... it isn't going to be pretty with Voynov and Martinez out.

edit: Only real problem I had was 4v4 in OT putting Williams and Stoll out there... Neither one is fast at this point and it is brutal watching them try and pass with that much open space.

DS on DD's end-to-ender: "He skated down the middle of the ice, shot the puck in the middle of the net. Should’ve used him in the shootout."

Ya think?
Sutter seconded guessing himself, no way!

Preds fan coming in peace, just wanted to say good game. Loved the tempo of this game compared to what we usually see in a Kings/Preds game. Although the most memorable Kings/Preds game for me is the Jeff Carter hat trick, I just cringe.. That Doughty goal was beautiful tho.. pretty sure Rinne was in shock after seeing him turn 4 of our players inside out lol. We would of gladly took the icing on that play.

Well, lose to crappy teams, beat good teams is what we do
:help:
