Not really any surprises with the roster... 35F / 20D / 7G ....
All the "tryout" players are already in the organization... O'Reilly, Howarth, Marino, Campbell, Wall, Nychuk, Haider are on AHL contracts with Milwaukee, while Armstrong and DeRidder are on ECHL deals with Atlanta.
All of our European prospects have been left in their various leagues, nobody is going back to Europe out of this camp (note that Milota plays in the QMJHL).
This isn't to me a very "open" camp... maybe if Tomasino doesn't show up then a handful of Milwaukee players are trying to grab that last spot... it would likely be between L'Heureux and the veteran tweener types (Bellows, Lucchini, Hinostroza). I guess there is a lowkey battle for the "spare" D spot... Stastney, Del Gaizo, and Blankenburg probably in the running, but I would think Stastney would really need to fumble the ball to let somebody take it from him?
Past that we pretty much know the Preds lineup already, and then there might be just a few small battles at the bottom of the Milwaukee roster too, otherwise the AHL lineup is pretty much set as well?
Monday Sept. 23rd is an obvious day for 1st cuts... the practice group size goes from 3 to 2, after the split squad games against Florida. So I imagine you see all of our junior players go back to junior on the 23rd... Marques, Lind, Willis, Gojsic, Mackinnon, Milota anyway... they will probably keep Molendyk longer and maybe Gibson.
The 29th is the next off day where they probably send all the Milwaukee players down, aside from a few who might be showing well in camp?

Next game is Friday. Maybe another day or two but they should have the first waive before Thursday so the coaching staff can start turning their attention towards the main team and closer to NHL prospects.

Pretty minor cuts. Basically all the CHL kids minus the camp standouts. Ultimately, theyll all likely be sent down but theyve earned a bit more time.

Definitely points to the idea that Gosjic is separating from himself from the pack of recent non first round draft picks. Almost no chance he ultimately makes the roster but has definitely moved into a prospect to keep a close eye on this coming season.

Frankly if you do well in camp you should get rewarded in some way. If they continue to play well they should continue to be here.

Well, normally you send junior guys back early, since their seasons are already started. Which is what just happened. Then we have a boatload of AHL-contract/AHL-only players who I guess there is no point in sending back until Milwaukee's camp opens? Which I read is still not until Oct. 1? But I would pretty much mass demote everybody who is not in the running by Sept. 30... all the AHL guys can go back on that day, aside from half a dozen or so who may be at least remotely in the running here.

Whoever isn't playing well. See that's the great thing about having young players and depth, you don't need to keep the old or not so great players around once they get passed up. Schenn, Lauzon, Carrier or Fabbro can all go as far as I'm concerned.

Yep same thing there. As long as you have replacements move them on out if someone is outplaying them. If you waive them and someone picks them up, tell them thank you and move on.

I'd love to see that happen this year but I believe the young guys will push them out next year.

I mean, that’s sort of true for every player on the team, right? But a track record has to count for something since camp is a small sample size to project whether players can sustain/improve over the course of the season.
In that vein, when you list McCarron, Jankowski and Smith, I would say McCarron has done more to carve out a role than the other two.
Similarly, when you list Schenn, Lauzon, Carrier and Fabbro, I would say Carrier is a class above and Lauzon has carved out a specific role.

I probably would have gone Smith ahead of McCarron? But anyway, lots of teams have some very generic 4th liners employed at minimal salaries, I don't think those are necessarily the roles we even want our better young prospects to aspire to?
The irony for me is that I think Fabbro is probably, secretly, the best of these 4. But we'll never know it. He'll go somewhere else next year and hopefully prove it.

The gnashing happens when some guys like that DON'T outplay Tomasino or Parsnip, yet displace them anyway.It's all good until it displaces Tomasino or Parsnip. Then there will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth around here.

Somewhat interesting note about the PP units from yesterday's practice. Still a lot of camp left but seems to suggest that the staff is happy with Tomasino's play up to this point at camp.
