Provided the Oilers actually making Yak available... but I'll take Versteeg over Yak for the short term.

Oilers are in "win now" mode (believe it or not) and don't have time for Yak to continue to figure it out...its now or never for Nail, that said, you know what your getting in Versteeg.

As a Leafs fan I'd prefer Yakupov due to his upside and age being in line with our rebuild. Most teams not looking to contend are likely in the same vote. That being said most playoff teams would likely prefer Versteeg.
I honestly can't see this news affecting the value for Yakupov. They're completely different players.

Yak and it isn't close IMO. The salary difference and pieces needed to trade for Yak would make many prefer Versteeg though.

This

Versteeg isn't much more than a body to throw on the ice. Yakupov's chance of upside isn't worth much more than free.

How does Versteeg affect the market for Yakupov?

Are you assuming Yakupov is still on the market?

I'd rather the Hawks sign Versteeg for 1 mil or less than trade a prospect so they could pay Yak 2.5. Neither excite me though.

With Versteeg returning to the NHL, this will undoubtably affect any market that is there for Yakupov.
If your team was in the market for an RW, who would you prefer?

This is a better question for the oilers fans. Depends what it would take to get yak for everyone else

Is Kris Versteeg really an NHL talent anymore? I know he's won some cups, but he was very much a complimentary piece to those teams. Yak at least has the upside to become a bonafide NHL'er, so I'll take him for now.

Steeger was getting top line playing time on a better team(still bad team) last year than Yak.

Listing mediocre stats isnt helping.

Tell me about his play.
Why don't you tell us why he's a bum? A recent two time Stanley Cup champ thought he was worth enough to acquire at the deadline last season. So please enlighten us why he's a "bum" ....who's made more money in a season than you probably have in your entire life

prefer yak if the cost was absolutely nothing to acquire him.
early 2nd + prospect or whatever the ask? just take verteeg then

This.

Would much rather take a flyer on Yak in the hopes he can lift his game up another couple levels.

However, if I have to give up 2nd or 3rd+ for him, I'd probably just opt for neither guy as I dont like Versteeg much at all.

Yeah, and if he wasn't a bum he'd still be making a lot of money.

We can address wealth when my career is over, if you want.

I'd rather Yakupov, if he could figure things out. That being said Versteeg costs no assets while you'd have to give something up for Yak.

You do realize that more than half the league is guys who are career "complimentary" players. Not that I'm a Versteeg fan but at least he has been complimentary, that's far more than Yak has done this far.

You better get 38 points getting top line mins and top pp minutes for an entire season.

15:23 per night, but 1:46 of that was on the PP.

His stat line is similar to Brock Nelson, except Nelson scored a lot more goals.

Nelson:
81 games
26 goals
40 points
15:48/night
1:46 on PP

Versteeg:
77 games
15 goals
38 points
15:23/night
1:46 on PP

Speculation is that Versteeg couldn't pass an NHL physical......and he couldn't pass the one overseas. So it might be unlikely he is playing for anyone in the NHL until he does.
