...on Ralph Krueger's team with Sam Gagner.

...on Todd Nelson's team with Derek Roy.

...on Todd McLellan's team with Connor McDavid.

Give Yakupov a creative center and a longer leash and he'll produce.

As for Versteeg, it never hurts to give him a shot.

This 100%. I'd like him with McDavid to start this season.

If you want to keep your goal differential good, which is always the key stat for me to whether or not you have a good shot at the playoffs, Yakupov is a player that we need to get rid of. It's not even close between him and Versteeg IMO. I'm hoping this PTO means that Chia is close to something with Yak going out to someplace else.

The oilers aren't in win now mode the highest or lowest depending on how you look at that that they have drafted since 2009 was 7th

They drafted 10th in 2009

That's not a win now team

Chicago the Pens, TB, Dallas, LA hell even Calgary these are win now teams

You are not.

They have McDavid and he is already a star player, plus they added Lucic and others, they need to do everything they can to win from this moment forward.

They are not you need to be at certain level as a team before you are in win now mode you miss the playoffs for 10 years you aren't there

Gotta buck the trend eventually. We have enough young assets that we can afford to trade youth/picks for upgrades on the roster without shooting ourselves in the foot. Not many people were calling the Kings a Cup contender the year they won as an 8th seed. If the Leafs don't make the playoffs within the next 5 years I doubt you will concede they aren't ready to win now before the season even starts.

Not only will I concede that but I will call for the heads of every single person in management at that time because if that happens they have failed

Fleischmann Weiss Versteeg

Yakupov needs to be carried by good to great talent to be viable (Roy not withstanding).

Haven't heard anything good about Versteeg after reading comments from other fan bases that have had him recently. Sounds like he's not good in the locker room. I don't see any reason why we'd bring him in. Would much rather give Yak another shot.

I don't like this idea of playing Drai and Nuge together either. We just saw the Pens win a cup rolling 3 lines that can score, why not emulate that? I think the overall quality of their top 9 and ours is very close.

It will be the first time Yak has consistent minutes with a quality center. If he still doesn't produce, then we can close the book on him, but I don't see Versteeg making us any better. If anything, it sounds like he can't accomplish much unless he gets quality minutes and line mates. Would rather give that opportunity to Yak.

Nothing wrong with competition in training camp, and I imagine that's the main purpose of the PTO (light a fire under Yak), but I'll be severely disappointed if Versteeg was brought in to make Yak expendable and get dealt for a 2nd.
