And my dad -- diagnosed this week with brain cancer. Will recap the game for him (minus the 112 dB crowd noise) when we visit hospital today.

Sorry to hear that JetsUK, I hope he receives a miracle.

I though it was stated last night, that he took a shot off his ankle in game 4, that caused the problem?

And there were 2 particularly hard hits in that game too - thus the "general malaise", meaning battered and bruised all over.

I was thinking before the playoffs started that with how the league keeps getting younger, faster, and more skilled that at some point a team is going to leapfrog over the normal route of having to lose before you can win the big prize. Will it be the Jets this season? That is pretty tough to say they have all the pieces to win a Stanley cup so I would say they have a solid shot. I think we will find out allot next round because they will most likely be facing a team that checks all the boxes. If we can beat Nashville then we have a shot at doing this differently.

I don't believe that normal route exists. It only appears to because of odds. Nothing to do with needing that experience. In any given year there are about 5 teams that are close enough together that they can be considered as having equal odds of winning it. So they all go in with a 1 in 5 chance. Every once in a while some lesser team flukes a win, so 1 in 6 might be more like it. So, if it takes 2 or 3 shots after a team becomes a contender it is just those odds at work. Occasionally a team wins it on their first try but they are just considered an outlier to that rule but in fact their 1 in 6 lottery ball just came up.

I expect that in most years we will have 2 unexpected things happen. 1) A good team will go out early. 2) There will be 1 surprise team that lasts longer than expected.

That's rough UK. Be positive, cancer treatment has improved a lot even in just the last few years.

What he said below.

My playoff MVP's so far:

Buff. He's been utterly dominant. Just dominant. Playing a smart, conservative game with occasional amazing offense contributions, all while utterly demolishing people at every opportunity. Playing against this guy must be absolutely demoralizing.

Helle. Excellent throughout except for a blip, and a spectacular performance to help us snag game 4.

Schief. Had one quiet game but for the most part, with 4 g, he's looked awesome against tough competition. Guy can get an elite shot off in traffic, while playing a smart all around game... pretty valuable in the playoffs isn't it?

Connor. Hasn't been on the score sheet outside of one assist, but I am loving this guy's game. Hardly makes a wrong move on the ice.

And Morrisey has just been consistent and smart as usual.

Guys who have been good but I think there is even more to come from them next series:

Laine. Lowry.

Agree, and there are more players who could be singled out for praise.

Subban makes almost $ 2 million more than Buff -- this may be correct, but I would not trade Buff in exchange for Subban-- I think Buff is way better.

I know Buff gets a lot of money here -- like $ 7.8 mil, but really he's worth it compared to what other elite Defenseman are getting--like Subban at around $ 9.5 mil per year.

I'll bet Buff could get around $ 10 million as an unrestricted free agent right now, so we should be lucky to have such a "complete all around D-man on our team."

AAV:
Subban - 9 mil
Buff - 7.6 mil

Salary this year:
Subban - 11 mil
Buff - 8 mil

Buff's better.

Prior to this season I was pretty down on Buff, believing that the team might be better off without him. Obviously I’ve changed that opinion. He’s been incredible this season (apart from a couple of missteps in overtime) and possibly their most important skater so far in the playoffs.
Delicious crow!

Wow - still doubting the Knights! No free pass by a long shot for the winner of Wpg-Nash (assuming they get by Avs)

I will continue to doubt the Las Vegans even if they win the cup. Flukes happen. Sometimes a fluke can last long enough to go all the way.

Not a fluke, you say? Karlsson with 43 goals! In his previous 183 NHL games he scored 18. You might blame that on lack of opportunity but he never scored remotely like that in the AHL either. In fact we can go all the way back 11 years to where he was 14 YO and he never scored like that. 13 of their top 16 scorers had career years. All in the same year? That never happens.

They are a fluke.

You are not the only one ... I was on the fired Maurice wagon after the second disappointing season with this much talent:oops:. We need to step away from the keyboard for a day after a bad game with the way this team is on a mission no one should be calling down any Jet players or Coaches or Management.
Even Elliotte Friedman threw a dig at the Jet fans last night saying he got lots of tweets from them on wanting to fired Chevy and Maurice before the season started.

Buff has been phenomenal this playoffs. As far as I can tell he has only made one mistake, if you compare that to any of the other Norris winners he has definitely been as good or better than any of them this playoffs.

Yup, think so too. SN did a great job last night IMO. Gave plenty of credit to the Jets where credit was due. Romanuik however, still seems like a Wild homer.

Credit where due. I wouldn't say SN was 'great' last night. There were still flaws and Kypreos was one - but all-in-all they were pretty good.

Does anyone anyone have concrete sources on Ehlers being healthy scratched or is it all speculation based of the post game interview? Curious to hear why you would think that would happen. It would basically mean he dropped significantly in the team hierarchy over night...

If Fly had been a healthy scratch last night I doubt we’d have seen him celebrating in the press box with the others

It is all based on the post game interview and how each individual is interpreting the words Maurice chose to use.

IMO if indeed it was a healthy scratch it has nothing to do with team "hierarchy" it has everything to do with lighting a fire under his arse
