Agreed on the Shattenkirk/Pionk PP thing

It’s the strangest thing I’ve seen. You have one of the best PP QB in the world, your PP stinks and Quinn doesn’t put Shatty or Tony out there
Yup. It'd be one thing if PP1 were clicking and looking dynamic all the time, then you have no choice. But the PP has been flat out BAD for a while now, in fact, the unit with Shatty looked better most games.

It's just something I don't get. Like you said, you have an elite PP QB on your roster and you're not using him. People wonder why Shatty's production is down, this is a guy who did most of his damage on the PP, it's not surprising he's not getting any points considering he's getting mop up duty on PP2.

But he moves Strome to the first unit? That's his shakeup move instead of changing Pionk for Shatty. I don't get that. It's like fine, Pionk is serviceable to run a second unit. But the first unit has been trash and he's bullet proof for some reason.

Agreed that Henrik gave up some garbage...but it's bound to happen, especially given the quality we r giving up.

Thats the most alarming thing about their play.

They were pretty good at generating chances and limiting quality chances despite not driving play. Both of those things have been trending in the wrong direction.

Assuming that everyone we play isn't going to lay an egg on the regular, regression is coming and its coming hard, its arguably already started (2-7-1 in their last 8, 1 of those wins being a skills comp win and the one OT loss was a game they should have lost handily.)

the pionk regression will happen.

pp time is where hes making his money.

5v5 hes weak. eventually the light will shine on him and the pp points will dry up.

hes gets tons of ice and all the pp time.

his metrics support all of this. he just isn't that strong other than on the pp where he racks up all his points.

Hate to use the excuse but losing 2 top 6 forwards, 3 actually when Names was out, for a decent chunk doesn’t help. Their play took a noticeable dip when Names and Buch went out.

Guys are playing over their heads and out of their ideal roles. We just gotta hope they can bounce back when the guys come back and hopefully they didn’t pick up bad habits.

I suspect we’re back to healthy by Friday.

Not the greatest players, but these lines enabled them to play above the sum of their parts. When they get back to these lines or close to them, we'll see some flow back in their game.

He’s not even good on the PP.

That unit has Kreider and Mika, two good PP players and the unit hasn’t been good for a while. Quinn needs to put Shatty up there. He’s one of the best PP QBs in the league there’s no excuse for him not being on the top unit. Especially when every game it seems like PP1 endlessly fails to break in and set up until they then get off the ice killing a minute fifteen off for the opposition. Truly baffling why Quinn hasn’t tried Shatty there at all through the power play’s struggles.

Agreed. It’s not like it’s a superb lineup but it has enough skill that hard work can let them play greater than the sum of their parts, as you said.

Missing Zucc and Buch slides guys like Strome, Fast and Vesey up which throws everything out of whack, making the whole lineup worse.

They've been with out both of those guys for basically a month+ (Zucc played twice, but still) and even ran off 3 in a row where they didn't look abysmal doing so. The 5 game stretch leading into thanksgiving was probably their best 5 game stretch of the season (compared to the previous 4 where they got shelled and somehow picked up 7 out of 8 points, they deserved 2 at most, that little portion of the run bugs me.)

They haven't looked good since the Islander ass kicking of Thanksgiving eve save for 20 minutes against Florida.

Yup. My thought exactly.

Yeah that's true. I guess when Namestnikov went down is when they started to really look bad, him and Chytil were able to fill top 6 effectively. Then he got hurt and we got Strome and Vesey in the top 6 which doesn't work. Vesey was looking really good on the third line, but up the lineup he's ineffective.

That generally happens when you play the very best teams in the league in 2 out of the last 3 games and the stanley cup champs a few games back too.

I god I hope so.

It’s getting me really steamed that a player who we don’t want to do well, is doing well.

Some might call that looking a gift horse in the mouth, but I’m like Stionk pls...need more likes #1FunTimeandHapiness✌️✌️

He's not doing well. That's why people are steamed.

He’s only doing well in reality. I base who I root for on expected values.

Anyway, the poster seemed as if they hoped he would “come back to Earth”, which surprised me.
I don't know what reality that is.

Nobody is hoping that he will come back down to earth. He will and he has. We're hoping the team realizes it.

I think Chytil is really developing well. I’ve liked the slow ease into more minutes. By the end of the season, following the inevitable trades, he should be seeing 16+ minutes a night. Could see him putting up 30-35 points this year.

DeAngelo is solid.

Claesson had a rough night.

Lightning look real good. Go get us that first round pick McDonagh.
