You must not have watched or just have an infatuation with him he gave up bud

This was me a few days before Callahan was traded:

I think its pretty clear that I was both aware of his troubles and not infatuated with him.

Anyway the concept of Callahan giving up on the team is an idiotic one and I doubt anyone who watched the team without their head firmly placed inside their ass believes that. He was a limited player and it was smart to not re-sign him and that is pretty much where the reality of the situation ends.

Cally is a 4th liner making 2nd line money. I'm thrilled he's not here anymore...however he was a terrific ranger and his never take a shift off attitude permeated through the entire franchise.

No hate for him AND it was right to move him.

He’s a 4th liner on a team who has one of the most highest forward depths in the league. Is he overpaid yeah but he can’t get opportunities to even play up to his contract in Tampa. He could still be a middle forward on some teams and a 3rd liner on most. If cally was making 3.5 to 4 million no one would have an issue with his contract. Heck his salary is even down to 4.7 in the final two years.

But you right, he pushed himself out of NY and it was best for him and the Rangers to move on.

Maybe hate is too strong a word and should be reserved for Crosby and the like. I certainly don't hate Girardi and he is one of the reasons I would be happy to see Tampa win the cup. I just wish they could replace Callahan with Stepan and then I would really be rooting for them.

Surprisingly, I also didn't want the Rangers to offer Callahan any contract and was pleased with the trade (not the picks, but offloading a future albatross).

The negotiation to me really wasn't the issue, it was just the ultimate result that he basically drove himself out of NY over 250K/500K, then took around 750K off his NYR asking price to play in Tampa, an organization that had nothing to do with him previously. It made no sense to me at the time and still doesn't to this day and I interpreted that as a guy who doesn't really care about things other then money.

Had he gotten something like 6.5 or 7/ year from Tampa, my feelings would be much different, because even for a wealthy person, 1mil extra per year is too much to pass up and also stupid from a practical perspective. But that he ultimately left over 200K and actually makes a lesser gross salary , really bothered me.
Im not going to defend Cally "in any way" as I feel similar to you, but........we just will NEVER KNOW how much influence his wife had on his decision, or family and extended family had. Lets face it, Florida is a great place to "live and retire in". He has a set salary (albeit a little less) with no real financial worries. He beat retirement to the punch and is already here and settled.......AND some of his best buddies are in Tampa now, as well. I would say he is very happy with his decision......or his wife's decision. Its his right, and is one animal, where as Hank is a different kind of animal. Loyal to the bone.
Maybe Cally was that same kind of loyal......and showed it in demanding that ntc? If that is the case......well then.
Otherwise, good riddance as the Rangers would be overpaying him as well. Marty did what he did while here, and made his mark. Just cost us a couple of 2nds......which I am SURE Tampa used VERY WELL. Damn them! But, if it helps them to win a cup, then we get a 1st in return for latest trade with them. Everybody wins! Lmao. Except us fans, as we still dont have that recent cup.

Good find, and sticking up for yourself.
