He's a very good prospect and I don't really understand anyone who can argue that much with the pick.
He’s a good prospect to many people, which I can understand, but I disagree completely with anyone thinking he’s better than just good. For me, he’s not even that. I think he’s a pretty good prospect, but that was a bad pick. Not a terrible pick, not a franchise-destroying pick, but a bad pick nonetheless. Especially when Liljegren, Mittelstadt, and Brannstrom were all still there. And those are only the players I wanted at the time.

I hope Cody McLeod likes Connecticut.

Belesky is a clear upgrade owing to the fact he can actually hockey.
I’ll believer McLord gets sent down when I believe it

He’s the perfect player to scratch. I don’t see him hitting Hartford

Again there’s evidence of Lias’ quick release, still needs to use his shot much more
This will take time though for him to start scoring more
He’s new to the league and semi new to the NA game, he had a lot of space in the SHL because the ice, but once he adapts and gets better at getting open he should be putting up quite a bit of goals, Lias plays a power forward type game and they usually take a while to develop. I wanna see him play RW on the PP and just rip shots from there

I'm sorry, but this is just an insane argument to me. Who had Liljegren or Brannstrom that high? Only you? Mittelstadt I can understand, although I haven't been impressed with his development and don't really think it was that shocking a team could prefer Lias over him.

It sounds like you just have some ingrained bias against him and regardless of how he develops you won't accept that he is a very good prospect.

Liljegren and Branstrom are awesome prospects but are playing in a league where lias preformed at near ppg. As for Mittlesdat hes extremly overrated imho. If the Rangers are gonna regret taking someone its Suzuki but you’re underselling lias

I agree with this, although I don't think anyone can blame the Rangers for choosing Lias over Suzuki.

Lias would end up being more of a Sanguenetti situation. It really sucks if other players behind him develop in some sort of way, but at the time the pick was a good one.

This is hardly similar to McIlrath as he wasn't a reach. If anything Lias was a safe pick.

Lias has had multiple good games in nearly every league hes played in which is why he was a top 10 pick :), so yes he is a really good prospect
He’s really not. I just don’t see it. I’ve seen him do well in other leagues, fine. However, there have been many players that got over a point per game in lower leagues, including the AHL, and could never translate it to the NHL. I understand why people like Lias, but I see him as an excellent 3rd liner (maybe a below average 2nd liner) at best. I also value prospects with high ceilings (and low floors) much more than prospects with high floors (and low ceilings).

I mean, that's fine and it's good you recognize that, but it's not a good way to value prospects at all.

The first period spoiled us and is making this one look worse than it is, but the Rangers are still ragdolling this game 5v5.

I have a huge bias in favor of offensive, puck-moving Swedish d-men. And Liljegren was projected to be a top 5 pick before he fell. And I always loved Brannstrom.

Maybe not, but it works for me. I don’t completely discount “safe” prospects, but I prefer to take a gamble on prospects who can potentially become game-changing players.
