Got to the draft about 6 pm after coaching (winning ) lol my Lodi all stars over rival Garfield 11-7. Walked into the rock and walked right into the ice lounge without anyone stopping me, which turned out to be great as most of the drafted players families were there as well as tons of scouts. I meet up with great friend Chris Reily of NHL network and we talked and listened to others talk about who was in play and how much. While standing at the bar Dale Hunter walks up and sits right next to me and strike up a great conversation as a ton of drunk devils fans tell him the rangers and caps both suck. Hunter turns to me laughs and says long day to service booze. The rangers make there pick Adam Tambellini and one scout turns around and says rangers took one soft pu&&y there, wow not what you want to hear. Anthony Duclair is picked and a funny moment happens as his uncle runs down to the rangers table and starts talking to Sather and Glenn's face is priceless. More on the uncle later.. Pavel Buchnevich was a pick most of the guys liked seemed like a steal in the third for us. Walked down to the first row next to rangers table for a little while got to meet Scotty Bowman , cam Neely and a few others walking by plus 99% of kids drafted rounds 3/6 .. I went back up to the lounge to just get a break when Jim Schoenfeld walks by and hits me with a hey what's up goon lol huge smile ..Jim is now back to being G.M. Only in CT. He answered a few questions for me . Here we go.
D.g. Jim are you happy with Wolfpack roster and will there be free agent vets signed ?
Jim
We are really happy with the kids and expect one or two minor league vets but nothing major.
D.G.
Are the Wolfpack tough enough without a true enforcer ?
Jim
Brandon Mashinter is a legit tough sob. Can play and fight we love him. Could be in NY a lot. Dylan McIlrath is a beast will fight anyone one does lose.
I told him how much I loved that pick and he laughed and said he remembered me defending it last yr at a per season game and laughed and asked where my dagoon jersey was.. He then asked me if I was happy torts was gone to which I said I drove the car to Kennedy he laughed asked if I wanted to meet A.V. I said he'll yea. A.V. Was behind a door Jim introduced me by saying you want this guy on your side lol . A.V. Said he loved NY already and the fans were amazing. He posted signed and talked to anyone who asked...
Next up glen Sather
At end of round 5 slats gets up and starts to leave the draft table so I follow him out to hallway and ask him for a minute of his time.
D.g.
Glen hope your health is going well and your looking great great.
Sather
Umm thanks, where you get them sticks? ( I was holding some game used stick I purchased at a sale tonight. Mallette and Vail. )
I said bought them here . Slats oh ok
D.g.
new coach seems like great fit very personable

Slats
Yea he will fit in nicely that way with press..
Slats then says he needs to go before people flock to him lol ( not many left and no one around )
I look him in the face and tell him I will knock out anyone who bothers him. Slats actually laughs out loud and says walk with me .
D.g
Glen are you trading Clowes rights ?
Slats
We are trying but not working out to well.
D.g,
Strictly a cap move ?
Slats
Hell no he had 3 concussions he is damaged ( wow I am shocked at the honesty ).
Walk him to escalator and say good night..
I went over to NHL tonight set to hang with producers and listen to the non stop phones and texts..
This was most fun I ever had with hockey ..

Pictures to come

Seems like the Rangers think Mashinter could take some of Clowe's "tough sob" minutes based on the comment about seeing him in New York.

Without pics, never happened. . Lol, sounds like you had a blast! !! Not to smart on Glenny's part trying to deal a guy's rights and spouting off about him being damaged goods however. ..

I have a hard time believing Sather would voice his reasoning
like that to some fan. Especially someone he is trying to trade in a fluid situation.

Glen Sather's ineptitude at it's finest.

Let's fork over moar picks for damaged goods. :handclap::handclap::handclap:

Thanks for the post Dagoon. I wish I can attend a draft in my lifetime. Seemed like hell of an experience.

Any juicy rumors? :naughty:

I'm pretty sure he had those concussions while with the Rangers

He missed games for the Sharks due to an 'undisclosed upper body injury'. Take a wild guess at what that mystery injury might've been.

Sounds like you had a great time, that's awesome, man!

I should feel ashamed of this but I just caught on the fact that your name is pronounced Da Goon. I thought it was pronounced dag-oon.

He was both honest and very to the fact. Sorry you don't believe it but I have better things to do then make it up

Lol I forgot to continue that story as I was leaving I see the uncle in hallway and ask if he was proud of his son and he says oh that's my nephew. I said oh I saw you run to the table I figured you were his dad . He goes nope I had a question for the coach I asked for his phone number and a rangers hat. I laughed out loud and asked a phone number and shows me slats business card . Says we new at this we will have questions.

he got damaged after we traded for him though

Man, what i would pay to be in that position. Awesome share and cant wait to see some pics.

LOL, I get a very funny mental picture of what I think Slats' face would look like as he's telling you "hell no" about Clowe (I'm assuming you paraphrased that bit).

Sounds like a ripping day, you should have asked about the Richards situation

1. The odds that scout knows anything about watching a player compared to Clark is probably zero.
2. Scouts make lots of comments like that because they never had the skill of most of the prospects they watch in most cases.
3. Many of the scouts that make comments like those scout for teams that stink year after year after year unless they are drafting in the top 5 each season.
