Who thinks Muzzin will be here next year?

I think with the addition of Lyubushkin his ability to stabilize Morgan and his Lyubushkin UFA status + Muzz's recent injury history , his declining play, plus his cap hit (5.6 mil), means Muzz is the odd man out next year.

IMO it makes a lot of sense to sign Lyubushkin for the reasons I previously mentioned. Gio stabilizes Lilly, Lilly has gone from a bottom pairing pizza delivery risky defender , to a good bottom pairing defender with Gio. It makes sense to resign Gio just for the mentorship for Lilly, not to mention Gio's ability to play up in the lineup.

Next year I see the D-pairings as :

Rilley - Lyub
Gio - Lilly.
Sandin- Open

His “pivot” last night was painful. He can’t move well at all. I was hopeful that the 6 weeks off would help whatever was ailing his legs (in addition to head) but man I honestly think he might be done

Worst case is you get him for 1 more year and then trade him when he is only owed 2.

Brodie?

Where’s Brodie?

I doubt we see Muzzin moved next year. The team likes him. He’s been fine away from Holl, even if he’s paid to be more than just “fine”. Despite the embarrassing highlight from last night, Muzzin-Brodie had a disgusting 97% expected goal share.

Too early to pencil in Gio for next year yet. Despite his age he’s not a 7th defenseman yet and Sandin needs playing time and I’m not sure he’s super comfortable on his off-side. Gio might not be interested in such a limited role.

I could see something like this:
Rielly-Liljegren/Bush/Open
Muzzin-Brodie
Sandin-Holl/Liljegren/Open

I could see Liljegren either grabbing that top spot, or they bring someone low key in and let Sandin-Liljegren dominate the third pair.

i like Muzzin but the hard miles have caught up to him and he's looking cooked so i have no idea why people think someone would take his last 2 yrs without a large sweetener

also he has a full ntc and as i've been told there's no way to trade a player with the clause in his contract so we're stuck with him

He needs to be gone, we have cheaper players who are better. I love Muzz, but we live in a cap world, I'd rather have Sandin with his contract and RFA status than Muzz, who is also clearly on a decline. We can run Rielly/Sandin/Giordano on the left and Lybushkin/Brodie/Liljegren on the right, and save nearly 6M in cap.

Dubas will eat Muzzin contract for another year then deal him next July.

Gio and Bush need to both be re-signed yesterday, should be a priority. Holl will be easily moved for a draft pick.

Are we not allowed to be critical of a player just because the team won a game last night? Jake Muzzin was terrible, doesn’t change that fact.

Did you even watch the game or did you just see the one highlight?

what happened to Brodie?

His mobility looks off and he's often got his head down, so I kind of worry that he's vulnerable to injury. In terms of quality of play it looks like a guy you want to move off ASAP due to the cap and what we could really use that money for. Maybe LTIR is the best option here, like a Shea Weber special.

Can't forget about Brodie. I'd agree that Muzzin and Holl would likely have to be elsewhere in order for Giordano and Lyubushkin to want to re-sign. Muzzin essentially holds close to all of the cards here though via his NTC.

Lots of suckers out there for the experienced, physical, Dman full of ‘intangibles’ still. Also 2 years and a 5.6 cap hit but only 6 million in real money left over 2 years as of July 1st.

If Dubas wants to move him he’ll be able to find a suitor. Whether Muzzin will cooperate or not is another question.
