3/4 games back after 6 weeks off and people...never mind. My take, Muzz improves as the minutes develop. He's not what he was, but he's an effective Dman who will help the team come the playoffs. As to getting walked, it happens. I think there's a clip somewhere where McDavid makes MoRiels look silly. And, as we know, Morgan's skating is way sub-level, I mean bad. Stuff happens.

It was McDavid and Rielly has always been known as a fast skater

If he’s healthy and able to play he’ll be traded, LA & Anaheim need LD and play in familiar territory for him, detroit Columbus Buffalo and Ottawa are all close enough to Wooodstock and all are on that part of a rebuild where solid vets are assets not liabilities.
If he’s cooked it’s ltir and probably traded to a floor team as after his $2m bonus is paid he’s owed $2m for the 22-23 season and a 2m bonus and 2m salary for 23-24.
Holl & muzz replaced with GIo and Boosh probably saves upwards of $5m in cap space to improve the team in others areas

Did you even watch the game or did you just see the one highlight?
I watch every single game and have for decades. He was awful, looked slow, sluggish pretty much the entire game. Playing like he did that way in the playoffs can easily cost a game in a tight series against an elite opponent. It’s hard to say anything positive about him when he’s been brutal the entire season for the most part, then again he’s been injured far too often to get any real evaluation of anything positive, I have not seen it yet. I thought he was decent last season, but this season he has been brutal.

He was playing like he was injured in the game last night, hence why he’s not playing the games this weekend due to flaring up his injury, so I don’t think my evaluation of him last night was erroneous. Feel free to think otherwise, you’re not going to change my mind though.

The fact that 85% of the votes are for trading him instead of keeping him pretty much speaks volumes about how others feel about his positive contributions to this team or lack there of. Being constantly injured isn’t a positive even if you think he’s played well in the games he’s been in, which he hasn’t.

He's been very valuable in his time here but his cap would be best used elsewhere

5.65 from him and 3.8 from Mrazek opens up a lot of options

Muzzin IMO is still an important piece of the D-core. Just can't play as many minutes. Probably because his body still getting used to it after return from concussion.

Holl is the odd man out for me.

Rielly Brodie
Gio/Muzzin Lily
Muzzin/Sandin Boosh

Muzzin has a limited NTC; not an easy piece to trade. Also, he is useful IMO.

Dont think we will be able to afford Mikheyev, I think he walks as UFA. Engvall is a 50-50; so really we need cap space for goalie, sandin, lily, Kase (if available), Engvall (may be). Gio if back with the team + Spezza's cap hit.

More important question for me is what do we do with Mrazek? We cannot afford both Campbell and Mrazek. Gotta make a decision on that.

Has to be the one play where he was caught flat footed, which admittedly looked bad. It happens.

Outside of that, I thought Muzz was good. But hey, let's focus on the highlight clip!

May not be a popular opinion but I blame Matthews for that. He blew the o-zone cheating for offense.

can you point to one other bad play this game other than that one?

and yeah using this board's polling numbers to back up your point is a better argument for the opposite being true.

Muzzin is a great player, but injuries slowed him to the extent he is not efficient anymore. LTIR as he won’t agree to be traded.

Yes muzzin lost speed and will be beat like carlsson again but he didn't get his career because of his skating..hea
Its the same thing everybody telling about Chara like last 10-15 season or about Weber... They are slow but they know how to defend and how to use their body perfectly. Thats why brodie is a very good fit with muzzin. Brodie bring the skating but lack of physicality, muzzin bring the physicality but lack of skating. If hes hewlthy, no reason to trade him away

With Rielly, Brodie, Liljegren and Sandin ready to take over, I’d rather sign the younger more effective Lyubushkin and if Giordano looks like he can last another year sign him to a sweetheart deal.

Trade Muzzin next year or at the draft to move up in the first round.

If the Leafs made him available, he'd get a surprisingly decent return just for being Jake Muzzin. Unfortunately, he has alot of trade protection, which could make things difficult

I would be disappointed if the Leafs renege on their NTC by pressuring Muzzin to accept a trade a year early. It speaks to who they are.

Muzzin is still a useful player. He may need this summer to come back to full health.

He can submit a 10-team NTC in 2023-24. The Leafs could then pay his bonus and easily trade the last year of his contract for actual assets when his cap-hit is $5-million-plus but his remaining salary is only $2-million.

That's the deal.

Until then, he's part of the team.
