I don't judge teams based on b2b games. Without rest you aren't all there. Having said that the jets were pretty good for the 1st and parts of the 2nd. The wheels came off because glycogen levels ran low. I have faith in the team I think they've earned it lol.
I think it had as lot to do with energy / stamina too - we looked good until the fuel ran low.
I don't think this Pred's team was by any means good - they just had more energy - and that's all it takes against a team with no legs.
At least I hope it was this -

Tough loss and tough break for Samberg, should be out week now with a broken foot!

Comrie good, rest of team not, piss poor effort and by the look of it conditioning on a back end of a back to back!

Gonna see what Tiny Heiny or Coghlan or Stan are made of!

people predicting jets can’t keep this up are probably right… That said there is no reason Jets have to be a legendary team. They can be merely very good team. I’m not going to waste time worrying about the future.

We've seen them overcome hurdles this season already, this road trip will be brutal and losing snerg sucks but losing the back half of a b2b against a desperate team doesn't really raise many red flags. They all looked tired. We know what this team looks like when firing on all cylinders.
Plus side, even with the loss, im a bit more confident in comrie after tonight TBH.
Too much panic in here rn

There's a lot of teams that have faced adversity with injuries early in the season. It was bound to happen sooner than later. I thought Samberg was easily one of the 3 best Jets defensemen to start the year, so that's going to hurt. I don't think this game gave Scott Arniel much confidence in Haydn Fleury to step up, he was fighting it a bit out there I thought.

Miller did well to step up, with Pionk on his offside, but this one could have some impact. The only other shutdown LD on the team is Morrissey so we'll see how that affects the lineup.

I thought the Jets started well enough but as the game wore on legs weren't there. Happens on back to backs. Lowry's line was the only real pushback line from the 2nd period on. Loved their goal.

I didn't like that headshot by Nyqvist in any way, and I was surprised there was no response from anyone, it was fairly obvious.

Kelly Sutherland didn't do the Jets any favours either, but let's not go there.

On to Minnesota. Next man up. Is that next man Salomonsson?

I don't think we really have any shut down D on this team - but we do have a shut down system as long as it's all 5 skaters working that system.
Our best defense shows up when the team plays that game - we're more than capable of doing that at any time.
So now would be the time.

Based on what I see, we will sometimes struggle in our end regardless of the D pairing that is out there.
You will see less of it with JoMo because he drives a lot of offense - but if we get hemmed in due to a poor back check or less than enthusiastic Nzone play, we end up defending. We will sometimes point at the defenders (D) when this happens but when you break it down, it's the 5 man unit that is usually breaking down.

I'm hoping Arniel stresses this point - especially with Samberg out. We have a much improved offensive game but I'm seeing cracks in the D system that is a big part of our structure that allows us to be better offensively.

This is why the analytics are misleading.
The first Preds goal Scheifele takes the man out in front of Comrie but its a seeing eye shot from the point 1-0 Preds. .. minus one for #55.
The 3rd Preds goal Morrissey pinches in and Preds are 2 on 1 break the other way Comrie stops it and rebound goes by 2 Jets onto Preds stick ... minus two for #55.
Empty net goal minus 3 for #55.
Scheifele also gets 3 minor penalties?
The Jets did not lose because of Scheifele but the analytics point to that direction.

I'd love to see Salo come up but im unsure where he would fit into the lineup. Isn't he a RD?

Well I agree with what you say about defending as a 5 man unit in principle, from watching the games Samberg has taken on a key defensive role. I would that 90% of the time that Lowry's on the ice, it is either Morrissey-De Melo or Samberg-Pionk in that defensive role against top 6 players, often in the defensive zone. Then there is the PK where Samberg has been solid on the top unit. Big skates to fill, and tough break for the guy in a breakout year.

What I see down the depth chart is Fleury struggling to make reads and move the puck cleanly, on a sheltered bottom pairing. Heinola is not going to be thrust in a top 4 defensive role, maybe he plays with Pionk in a more offensive one, and Josh has to eat more hard defensive minutes in Samberg's absence. Stanley does not seem capable of steady 20 minutes per night hockey, though he may take some of those PK minutes. It's generally a hole when you lose a top 4 defenseman, and the Jets are not stacked with depth on defense in the top 4 sense. That's where I wonder if Salomonsson would come in and play his offside, as he did in preseason. Skating wise, and physically you are looking at a similar type player, but is he ready for the NHL? This is going to be an interesting period for the Jets, where they are going to have to rely on stronger defensive play from their forwards to negate the loss of a top defensive d-man.

Embarrassing performance by 55.

Reminded me of a few of his games 2-3 years ago where it was 50/50 if we should extend him or trade him and cut our losses.
Boy he sure ripped a few good passes early in the game. Could have easily put the 1st goal on the board off those.

It's funny he gets the target, I mean it wasn't his best game, but there were more than one passenger. And I don't think moving Ehlers up would have made much difference because Ehlers had one of those game where he wasn't going to skate a d-man below the circles and take contact, he was turning over the puck at the top of the circles consistently.

After the loss the Preds have closed the gap on the Jets to 17 points, so I'm not too concerned about an off night. This road trip will be a good test for this team.

Had to play with only 5 defensemen for alot of the game on a back to back on the road, tough to win a game like that. We are 17-4 and to me this team has showed multiple times already this season how good they can play so I'm not ready to say well that's it now we are f***ed . The team was tired plain and simple, it happens , nobody played great not just the 1st line. You know that 1st line that has won us alot of games this season already. Rest today and come out fired up against Minnesota, really shity to lose Samberg but it opens the door for someone else to show they can play like Heinola.

Perfetti has 2 5v5 points in the last 15 games. Some secondary scoring would be nice around now. Can’t have Scheifele and Connor winning every game for the Jets.
Yeah this kid has to figure it out. I would have thought his end of last season would light a fire but he started slow, had a nice little run and has disappeared again.
