I guarantee you I'll get in trouble if I post some N.W.A. here.

I actually got the guitar last Friday. It was in its case in a cardboard box. They unpacked it there at the store and I half-expected it to be the wrong color. They got the color right but when I looked at it I was dismayed to see rusted strings and a fretboard that had obviously not been cared for since it came out of the factory (probably about nine months since the serial date is October 2013).

I'm not sure if it was because it was in the box all that time or it was on display. In either case, it is Guitar Center being Guitar Center...they just don't know how to care for guitars properly...what else is new?

The first three photos shows what a dried-out rosewood fretboard looks like.

I cleaned it up, conditioned it with some F-One, put on some new strings, and it looks and plays great now. See the last three photos.

Awesome guitar, Ron!

It is totally inexcusable for both Guitar Center and Gibson to sell a product for that price and not have it be in pristine condition. I bought a LP Studio a few years ago from Musicians Friend and it had burred fret edges that if played for more than 5 minutes, would have cut my hands. Needless to say I sent it back. I got really lucky with the SG I bought that was bought from mail order as well. It was excellent right out of the box. Anyway, glad you got it playing good and you're happy with it. It is a sweet guitar.. congrats!

Thanks man.

I won't ever buy from Musician's Friend again. They are totally neither. More like Musician's Enemy. I ordered a bunch of pedal gear from them about a year ago (total cost about $800) and they wanted a PIN code from my credit card or a second address or something (I can't remember which) and I told them no one ever asked me for secondary credit card information before. They said it was their policy. So I gave them my favorite Mahatma Ghandi quote and cancelled the order.

That's crazy... you do know MF/M123/GC/WWBW are all the same company right? I don't like supporting any of them so I usually have only purchased stuff at rock bottom prices. I got that SG for $750 after tax.

No I didn't know that but it doesn't surprise me. Now that I remember it was my birth date they wanted and of course I thought that was totally out of line.

They just were fine with me cancelling a $800 order. Just unbelievable.
