That's awesome! What year is that?

I'm going this morning, when they first open up at 11 a.m. I only want the the classic "cherry sunburst candy" color, knowing Guitar Center "bait and switch" tactics, I doubt they have it, but they got all the others. Wouldn't be at all surprised.

They haven't changed the price online, it's still at $1,399. So already the warning siren is going off in my head. I could get that anytime at that price, but hell I sure would like to save $400.

I'll post a pic here if I get it later today.

It's probably an in store only thing (if they sent out flyers).

My SG is a 2013 model with the 57 Classic pickups (my favorite Gibson pickups) and the 60's neck like the LP you're looking at. It's by far my favorite guitar. Strangely, my second favorite guitar is an Agile AL-3000 LP copy. It's the guitar in the lower left:

Holy ****, a couchful of gear!

Where do you keep all of it? I have a roomful of amps, pedals, and guitars myself, but it also doubles as an office (and now, a Stanley Cup shrine) so kind of tight there.

Anyway, my local GC didn't have it, but a cool salesman ordered it for me from another store and I will pick it up in a few days. I will post a pic of it when I get it. :)

I had a problem for a while. I was chasing the guitar dragon. :sarcasm: But that has stopped. I did have an extra bedroom for a while that was my music room which included an electronic drum kit. But now I keep my Gibson LP's, the SG and the Explorer under my bed. The rest are on a 7 guitar stand in my living room. I got rid of the black acoustic and the black SG. I did start to build a black telecaster in 2012 to commemorate the Kings cup win. I actually forgot about that. But now I'm going to fish that out of the closet and finish that. Having that many guitars is so ridiculous. You can only play one at a time. But I do feel it is good to have a LP, SG, Strat and Telecaster. I think you can get a wide range of tones with those. Perhaps swap out one Gibson and one Fender for something else that is unique.

Right now, I'm selling the Explorer, the Squier Strat that is on the bottom right and the jazz bass. I think I'm going to get rid of the Goldtop 60's tribute as well. I definitely don't need all that crap. For amps, I have a Kustom V100, Jet City 5012C (50w combo) and a Peavey Bravo 25w combo. All of them are too loud for my apartment. I'm going to sell the Jet City and the Peavey. Finally, I sold all my pedals a few years ago and bought a Line 6 M-13 that is great for screwing around. it has a looper on it and a zillion stomp box models and you can use up to 4 at a time.

Looking forward to seeing the new guitar!

They're so good it had to be reminded. I want to see these guys live.

Hope you get to see them at some point. I saw them back in December adn it was a fantastic show. They sound great live, and boy do they know how to entertain. Lots of toilet humor but what do you expect from a band that is basically the ultimate 80s metal tribute.

Found out today that these guys are playing a show on Halloween in my town

Mega-Man + rock opera? Yes please!

My new Gibson

I actually got the guitar last Friday. It was in its case in a cardboard box. They unpacked it there at the store and I half-expected it to be the wrong color. They got the color right but when I looked at it I was dismayed to see rusted strings and a fretboard that had obviously not been cared for since it came out of the factory (probably about nine months since the serial date is October 2013).

I'm not sure if it was because it was in the box all that time or it was on display. In either case, it is Guitar Center being Guitar Center...they just don't know how to care for guitars properly...what else is new?

The first three photos shows what a dried-out rosewood fretboard looks like.

I cleaned it up, conditioned it with some F-One, put on some new strings, and it looks and plays great now. See the last three photos.

Did they cut the price further because of it?

You know, I think that was what this was all about, cleaning out old inventory that wasn't moving. It's basically a $1,900 retail guitar that has been on sale for $1,400 forever and I got it for $1,000, so I didn't ***** about it because I know exactly what GP is doing, and all it needed was a fretboard conditioner.

If after conditioning the wood still looked bad I would have brought it back, but several hours later the wood looks great...the F-One is widely respected as tops in the fretboard care world and I can see why.

I will probably condition it once a month or once every two months to get it back up to speed...the action is good on the board now that it's been oiled properly.
