LV should have just taken Dillon and played him this season. He didn't look awful in the playoffs and is young enough for an expansion team to wait and see. Perhap no room? 2019 5th round pick is close to a nothing return, but suppose better than waivers.

Schlemko is a little better than Dillon but both of them should be worth WAY more than a 2019 5th. They were the best bottom pairing in the NHL last year.

Just thought he would have been a good addition to their new team. Youngish dude with 3 years left on the contract, still room for his brain to grow. Then they took Garrison and Sbisa.

Vegas selected 13 defenseman in the expansion draft. They can't just play all of them next season, and Dillon, while attractive to SJ, has zero value to Vegas as a roster player. They have too many better 3rd pairing dmen already.

The only question is what Vegas could flip Dillon for to another team vs what they could flip Schlemko for to another team.

I sometimes rag on MB for going through the bargain bin, but IMO Schlemko is worth a good bit more than a 2019 5th, so I really like this deal.

McPhee took 15 D-men to flip them off but maybe he isn't getting the premium offers he thought he would. He created a big market distortion.

its a very pragmatic way to look at it, especially considering the obvious ones he was going to keep.

like another poster mentionned, its beaulieu and a 5th for schlemko and a 3rd ... can't complain from habs pov.... but how was basically ''selecting a 5th'' from SJ a possibility for the knights? if that's how you flip it its a terrible pick in the first place.
