Why the Habs fans in this thread mad at this?
Gallagher is worse then Boeser by a lot and and signed for two years longer. Boeser has $150k more on his contract so not that big of a difference.

Habs get
Younger player (25 years old)
-Better player (50pts)
-Shorter contract ($6,650,000 till end of 2024-25)
Didn't trade a high quality prospect

Canucks get
older player (30 years old)
Worse player (20-30pts)
Worse contract ($6,500,000 till end of 2026-2027)
2nd round pick.

I can guarantee it won’t involve taking on a longer contract for a worse player. I can guarantee you that.

I didn't said you'll get a longer contract. You'll definitely get a worse player and maybe some late pick.

If we trade Boeser we won’t get a lot back.

You’d have to pay more than that to get rid of Gallagher alone.

Probably. Thanks again to Bergevin.

Why would Vancouver do this exactly... ?

I mean, the idea of Montreal taking the Boeser contract isn't great but we can take it as a starting point, but odds are Vancouver would want something of value. Ylonen.... if current management thought he was worth something, he'd be on the ice right now. And a 2nd isn't all that much.

I guess I'm saying Boeser for Gallagher is a thought, but Vancouver would want something of value, and that something is likely something Montreal wouldn't want to give up.

Ylonen is not there because of the logjam of veterans on bad contracts

It's arguable that Boeser is currently better than Gally as of now. Boeser definitely brings a little more offense at this stage of Gally's career, but with Boeser on the ice, your team is playing short handed if they don't have the puck. He's one of the worst defensive forwards in the league, if not the worst (at least this season, so far). He could obviously still turns things around, ~2 down years happen regularly. Gally might be a good fit with some players on the Canucks, but I doubt he'll get back to his form from before last season.

The main difference in their respective value, honestly, comes from 1) age as you point out, and the fact Boeser might have more "upside" as a reclamation project and that Gally may further regress due to age, and especially 2) the contracts.

A deal centered around these two would require the Habs to sweeten things up for that extra 2 years at 6.5M, and yeah, I don't think Ylonen and a 2nd round pick do that. They'd probably at least want a player with top-6/top-4 potential (Mesar, Kidney, Mailloux, Roy, Hutson, I dunno), rather than Ylonen who I don't see being more than a bottom 6er.

monahan for boeser is probably what happens if these teams make a trade
Monahan would get a 1st rd pick at the TDL.

Why is a rebuilding team trading a 1st for a slow, overpaid, one sided winger?

Gallagher is a worse player with a FAR FAR worse contract.
At least Gallagher is somewhat useful on the PK and in hr D zone when he's not producing.

Boeser is useless when he's not scoring.

Question, Why would Montreal do that?
Answer. They wouldn’t.
people can say shit all they want but if there’s a rumor that one side wants to clear cap space for next summer and the other team has had longstanding interest in a player, especially now knowing that van isnt interested in taking back another player with term - that’s my best guess at what the most realistic deal would look like

i’m not saying montreal would or wouldn’t do it. i’m saying that’s the deal that makes sense for van and works cap wise.

i wouldn’t do it in montreal’s shoes, no question. but that’s me. have to look at the context.

Pezzetta and Dadonov aren't getting anything done. They would find a way to play Ylonen if they thought he had potential. We've had enough injuries to give us room in the lineup to call up whoever we want, and enough guys playing badly that there's no reason not to sit them out.
