I remember the year Lehk was dealt and the anti-habs troll takes about him.
since he's an avalanche, he's suddenly incredible. And ye's he's good, but
has been unlocked since playing for a good team.
Like Danault.
Now Avs fans want Evans.
If I'm Hughes, I tell McFarland to pound sand - or wait it out for a Monahan / Toffoli type return.
In fact, I just wouldn't answer the phone with colorado's history of f***ing montreal in trades

He was already "unlocked". I loved his versatility. The only question was his offense. He showed it in his rookie year then went through some tough seasons on the offensive side but not for a lack of chances. His scoring touch had already revived prior to leaving for Colorado.

He's exactly the kind of player you want for playoffs. He can play all situations and can fit on any line. He has a way of getting his fingerprints on big moments. Great motor too.

I don't disagree, I'm simply reminding many, that because he was on the habs he was considered an average acquisition - especially for the hockey DB stat watchers.
The gallagher / Danault / Lehkonen line was one of the best in the NHL - especially during Covid cup run.

I don't know why Avalanche fans are rehashing the Lehkonen deal.

That being said, this management has mentioned how important puck moving defenseman are. You don't need many to hit, but you need at least one to hit. They had Mailloux, to whom they added Barron, Hutson, Engstrom and Matheson. You can relatively easily add defensive defenseman down the line, this deal being a good indicator of it. Like centers, you want to accumulate the position I hopes to up the probability of one hitting.

You also have to evaluate where your team is. How would Lehkonen fit many years later, when the team would be on the upswing. Will it reduce the cap flexibility to add cap dumps like Monahan, who garnered two firsts. Will it give you 2-6 additional points or more per season, meaning you miss out on Slaf/Reinbacher/Demidov. Then you add the value of an extra second, allowing you to target a 6'1" smooth skating RH center at the draft. No Habs fan is mad Lehkonen has been great for Colorado, everyone loved him and wished him success, so this is a strange flex Avs have been trying to do for the last two years.

Totally agreed. I am also happy for Lehkonen and don't know why Avs fans keep bringing this trade up.
