Was it this summer Habs fans wanted a high draft pick for Barron? A 1st or 2nd I believe and now he’s traded for a depth defenceman.
lol dont group me with those Habs fans. I didnt even see that offer or i would have lulz-ed it

I had questioned why Kovacevic had been traded last year. I assumed at the time that it meant they thought Mailloux was ready, though to me that still left a hole that meant Guhle would still be unable to play on his natural side at LD.

I cant help but think this trade is to put a veteran presence back in there to make up for that mistake.

That being said, Carrier is getting 3rd most minutes in Nashville. He is much smaller than Kovacevic but evidently more mobile and good on his first pass. -14 seems really bad but Nashville is doing bad enough that i dont know how take that stat. Barron certainly doesnt inspire confidence, and he surely doesnt represent the future for hte habs.

I think habs will be more happy with Carrier than Nash with Barron. Kevin Raphael released something that has Carrier talk about how much he'd like to play for Montreal, but it hadn't been aired at hte time, presumably because of the conflict of interest in playing for a rival and saying that. I hope that means he will get a boost of motivation.

Eh earned that -14, it's not just a case of players being bad around him.

Other fans need to understand that Barron doesn't even factor in to whether this trade was good for the Preds or not, getting rid of the contract made it more than worth it.

Same for MTL, Barron didn't have a future here. He had all the chances to earn a spot and couldn't crack a regular spot.

Barron is a 6'2" p***y.

He was constantly getting rid of the puck to not get hit.

He has no hockey IQ.

The tools are therep but the toolbox is non existent and it's the NHL, you're going to get hit..

I understand, Carrier is a salary dump but we will take a chance on him.
It's not your traditional salary dump because Carrier can play, he's just making more than he should be and Brunette has been playing him in a much larger role than he should be.

Carrier is a good solid #5 and can be a decent #4 if he has the right partner, but they were basically playing him as a #3 trying to lead another pairing and he's jut not that guy. Carrier is a solid supporting defender that will chip in some offense here and there and won't kill you defensively as long as you don't try and give him a ton of minutes.

His size and strength cause him issues, and it also leads to being injured just about every season. Barron is apparently soft? well Carrier isn't far from that on his own. He seems to find himself on his knees in the corners way too much.

I've generally liked Carrier's game, but he's taken a clear step back this season after extending. I'm quite alright with Barron no matter what Habs fans say since they tend to over react on everything. I'll gladly have the 23 year old RHD over the nearly $4m bottom pairing dman
There are things about Barron to like. He skates well. Has a decent shot. Can move the puck and distribute. It's not an overreaction to state on bad nights he's a dumpster fire in his own end. On good nights, he still manages to struggle. Is there time for him to develop? Sure.

Preds have another season of cost certainty with Barron. July 2026 he's arbitration eligible.

for Nashville fans: Barron has great tools. Biggest problem is that he does not have nhl level poise. Panics way too quickly and makes bad decisions or fumbles the puck.

Great skater, great vision, but just cant use them at an nhl pace so far.

He didn't really develop from his first season with habs. I do have to admit that he did get physically stronger - though he's not physical by any means.

Hey im sure you watch more Nashville hockey than i do, but Josi (who i consider the best TWD in the league) is -21.

Also, Carrier was 3rd in ice time for Nash, which tells me he has been much more useful than Barron was to the habs. Neither of those things scream "quick, dump his contract" at me, so I dont really agree that saving 2.6 M for Nashville makes this an even trade.

Barron has the tools to be a NHLer one day , time is running out but its not like it would be impossible for him to get better

I'm not going to lie I like this for Montreal I think they got a steal
We needed a minute muncher to isolate some of the younger guys , Savard can't really keep up anymore , even if Carrier is not great on the ice for us it's good for our young D

I expect Carrier looks more like his good years than his bad year here. Nothing is working in Nashville this year. We are trading and clearing players based on what seems to be a broken system. Filip Forsberg that rains goals is somehow looking like he will have his lowest goal total in his career since becoming a full timer. He might not hit 20 goals folks. Something stinks in Nashville and I don't think it's all these players that have suddenly all regressed.

Time on the ice on the worst team in the league is not a stat I'd hang my hat on. He's OK. He'll be a serviceable 3rd pairing player, depending on who he's paired with.

Carrier has been replaced by a tweener (Blankenburg) and he has outplayed Carrier this season. Carrier has just not been great this season. I didnt want to extend him to begin with. Carrier may be better than Blankenburg but he hasnt shown it this season. I for one am glad to be out of that contract. He got his time on ice because our RHD at the NHL level were Josi playing offhand, Fabbro who was waived because the coach refused to use him, and Schenn. He got time by default
