What ummm......... What is Nashville doing? and why are they doing it?

Next trade David Kampf for ROR at 50% retained.

No I don't actually mean that, that's not going to happen.

But WOW Trotz is VERY VERY NOT good at his job.
O'Reilly doesn't want to play for the Leafs. He already said there are 4 or 5 guys there that will never win.

Carrie's a pretty solid defenseman, not overly big but feisty and can move the puck. All Preds fans were content with him until he essentially became the #3D, which was a too big of a role for him. That and his deal was overpaid as well.

That being said, I think this is a move to clear some cap for the Preds.

Yeh ROR knows what’s up.

I read this shit every day on HF, this "joke" is really tiresome and limit xenophobic. People don't care when Toronto or Boston get local kids, they even get praised for it, but somehow french = meme.
The meme isn’t based in any hate of French people though. If it was it would be xenophobic. It’s just a joke cause in the past it seeeeeemed like Habs always targeted and wanted French players. They definitely wanted French coaches right? And French speaking GMs. And I mean you guys were hot after PLD not too long ago.

I used to be able to make this joke and it would be no issue. Sometime in the last 4 years it became such a sensitive topic. I don’t really get it.

Barron was mistake for Habs. Lekhonen was good hockey player
Lehkonen wasn’t going to help us tank and wasn’t going to help us compete when the time came. Hughes took a shot on a young mobile RHD with size and skills that showed some glimpses of potential early on but hasn’t worked out to date so moved on for a better fit that facilitates future moves. We also got a 2nd that helped get us Hage so it’s not a fail and even if it was if you don’t f*** up on occasion you’re not trying.

Wasn't Carrier held in quite a high regard once? Haven't followed him a lot lately though. Then again so was Barron like two years ago but turns out he just isn't very good. Obviously the Habs have to see something exciting in Carrier because there is risk in that contract if it doesn't work out, but they desperately need help in defense, especially on the right side, so just based on that I like this trade for the Habs.

He was, but that was mostly when he played with Ekholm. Anyone can look good playing next to him. Carrier's a fine defenseman, just don't expect too much from him. He's a solid #5-6D, with some abilities to chip in as the #4D.

I think Montreal just wants a veteran who can take the heat when the kids are having a rough night. Once Savard is gone, before this trade, they had a D 23 years old or younger, other than Matheson.

Barron had zero hockey sense. We just have good player away.

Barron is a complete p***y, so Carrier will be an upgrade. I don't like the contract, though.

The worse part is, we're still low on RHDs and could use another one.

I like this deal from the Habs perspective. Gives them a competent 4/5 tweener RHD who can play with some different partners and eat some minutes, move the puck, not be a total trainwreck. He's not really going to be an important piece of anything...but if/when the Habs decide to move Savard for value, it gives them a RHD who can play those minutes...so they don't have to completely throw Mailloux or an injured Reinbacher to the wolves.

Probably could've gotten more "value" elsewhere if they just went for futures...but i think Habs have plenty of that. They still need guys who can actually fill minutes over the next while.

And all they dealt is a guy who is immensely frustrating, because he's got all the tools...but can't seem to put it all together. I think they gave Barron plenty of opportunity and he just hasn't seized any of it really. I still like him as a gamble for a total change of scenery and maybe he eventually starts to figure it out. Nashville at the bottom of the league can afford to goof around and feed him minutes and see what happens. But it's looking dubious that Barron will ever become a more competent player than Carrier at this point.

Good, Trotz gets rid of a contract he never should have signed to begin with. This honestly isn't much different than the Ellis contract, the value is in getting out of it without giving up anything or retaining. Anything else you get from it is all bonus.

I suspect Montreal fans will be ok with him at first, but will grow tired of his constant falling down and getting pushed around in general. If you have a solid guy to put him with like Ekholm he is ok, but Ekholm made everyone look ok
