nemec is a stud going through adversity. if the devils were going to trade him they should target slaf for his size. no one is touching mallioux. especially with the wjc trial not even started yet.
Oh boy, that’s about as misinformed as you can be on the player and situation. The WJC team (and the players involved who have all been charged) was in 2018.

Mailloux wasn’t eligible for the WJC’s until 2020 and he wasn’t invited.

You’re mixing metaphors here.

MTL : Logan Mailloux/CGY first + Micheal Hage
for
NJ : Simon Nemec, Not sure about his value atm.

Nemec seems to have a hard time making the team atm.
Nemec would sure make the team in MTL right now with is buddy Slaf.
Micheal Hage is a great piece here and Mailloux has good potential as well.
CGY first should be a mid first pick.
Would be a NFW offer if I'm New Jersey. Mailloux looked terrible for the Habs this season. His analytics were brutal in his short stint in the pros. He's not ready.

New Jersey gets a worse and older prospect that won't help this season as the base of the deal.

Pretty sure he's saying a team that had 2 of the 5 players on the WJC that caught charges probably shouldn't trade for another player that had charges related to sex.

I’m sure you have backed up data and proof that a management team that came in 3 years ago doesn’t know how to use their players because they are rebuilding.

What about Winnipeg then? Do they know how to use their players? Why did they waive the guy?
Why did the Hawks and Hurricanes let Forsling walk?

Sometimes a player just needs the right opportunity or a change of scenery to reach their potential.

Your desire to defend this action simply based on the fact he was only given a fine says a whole lot more about you than it does anyone else.
You keep parroting the same line, expecting that to make what he did not be terrible. He was convicted of distributing sexual pictures without consent, this is absolutely a big deal, in fact it was a big enough deal for him that he tried to remove himself from the draft and put him on quite a few teams DND list.
Not defending his action but it is the lady who owns the pound of flesh not someone on the internet.I don't know if you have children but something like this a fear of most parents.Given that the incidence involved two minors it should have been handled between the parents of each with input from the professionals in the required fields. The thing is if they 6 months older it would have blown over in a couple of months. To make make clear she does own his testicles and I do expect there will a civil settlement between the two down the road. In the eyes of the law it was a $1600 fine which is quite a few steps lower of an offense compared to the multi decade imprisionment the team Canada accused players may face if convicted. The public embarrassment he will carry in his private life till the end. Yah gotta admit he has walked the line and how many kids would have crumbled?

I mean, he’s a recent 1st round pick who stock has only increased since the draft, not sure what you were hoping to prove with this comment.

Nemec’s stock on the other hand, has only dropped, much like Ryan Murray’s did.
Well, even if true, Nemec starts from 2nd overall. It's not like he'd be out of the top 10 let alone 1st round in a redraft...

First off, nobody asked for a pound of flesh that poster was saying a team that had 2 of the 5 players charged in the WJC fiasco shouldn't acquire another player with a questionable sexual past. I have 4 daughters and and there is no chance this "should have been handled between the parents" He broke her trust and the law, and should be held accountable for that not just grounded by his parents.

IMO he's lucky he didn't catch a distribution of child pornography charge seeing as that is exactly what he did if they were underage at the time. (Without looking into it I think I remember that she was 18 and he was under, which likely saved him from this)

I can't even imagine what you're trying to prove with the bolded line? Sounds like you feel bad for him and give him credit for being so strong?? That is ridiculous and I almost threw up just writing it.

Chicago let him walk at 22 years old, not 27 like Montreal did. Kovacevic is in its prime. What you see is what you get.

I don’t think anyone in Montreal has anything bad to say about him. He’s a steady player & barely makes any mistakes but to think he can be a top 4 in team trying to contend for the cup… that’s laughable at best.

Story was they were both 17.Sat and watched my 17 year nephew and yah know dumb as beep.He paid his retribution to society and what he did is not regarded at the same level as the what the team Canada players face. Would you put daughters up for public scutiny over something like this?

Wouldn't be the first dman to turn into a top 4 defenseman after his 27th birthday.

You probably would have said the same thing about Brayden McNabb 6-7 years ago. Now he's a cup champion.

Maybe, we never know. Odds are not in his favor for sure but who knows, maybe he prove everyone wrong

Why do you continue to liken this to the WJC? Just because what he did isn’t as bad, that doesn’t make it okay. Also I never once said the girl should face any scrutiny at all? Where did that come from?

I don't expect him to continue playing like an elite top pairing shutdown dman, but I think it's very possible that he's turning into a legit top 4 guy.
He was/is the only dman in MTL to outscore the opponent at even strength during Kent Hughes GM tenure.

Also MTLs best PKer over that time frame.

And the 2nd best xGoals share EV

I mean, MTL fans keep telling me that all their dman are so much better than the xGoals% say. Maybe they're right. Good thing we got the best of the bunch.

so nemec hasn't done enough.

as a devils fans i look at the thing from the opposite site. mailloux is a no-go for his past and current level of play as a main piece in trade for nemec. i don't want him at all. keep him. the calgary first is a complete unknown and hage has talent. he was considered by some of the devils prospect evaluators as a potential pick at #10 for the devils. but the pieces offered here are way less established than nemec.

so calling a 20 year old defenseman not established enough is kind of comical. he is years away from his prime and could become a rare #1 d. a true two way player. not like dougie hamilton, who needs the right partner to look competent in one aspect of the game.
I don't want to get into a back and forth with you about whether or not my speculation is more accurate than your speculation , I stated my opinion and I stand by it . To put it another way , I don't think the difference between Nemec and Mailloux is Hage and a first . Other than getting drafted second overall , Nemec hasn't done anything to merit a return like that . Can that change in the future ? of course it can but as of right now I think the Habs should pass and the Devils should keep their blue chip prospect and hope he reaches his ceiling . Just too risky for both sides !

It's not like Slafkovsky is exactly in an entire level of "proven".

so I expect his value to be Seamus Casey (better then Mailloux) and 1st round pick.

Slafkovsky was thrown to the wolves and sucked before getting concussed for the rest of his rookie year. Then he sucked for half a year before turning it on and looking like a beast.

Nemec baked longer like Defenseman do and then was thrown to the wolves and because of injuries to top defenseman on the team and ran with it and looked like a top two pairing guy.

Sources say we need to give nemec PP1 time immediately to juice his stats

Other than be a highly effective NHL dman at age 19 that is right?

So a players stock decreases because the team they play for is just to deep at that position? Nemos stock is just fine!
I really like Nemec and expect he'll become a phenomenal d-man, but you could argue that trading for a decent RHD and signing a top UFA RHD while already having a top pairing RHD indicates that NJ has some doubts. Either way, I hope NJ is wrong and Nemec turns out great. I like their team, generally like the fans, and like the player.

NJD traded for a 7D after Hamilton missed all of last year, as well as the knowledge that our RD signing in Pesce wasn't going to be ready to start the season.

Pesce being brought in was simply a value proposition.

Pesce was willing to take a discount to come here, which allowed us to turn Marino into assets while upgrading at the same time (for a minimal 1 mill cap increase)

I think they brought in Kovacevic to be a depth dman, I don't think that had anything to do with their opinion of Nemec.

Nemec had a very bad camp and terrible start to the season, probably because of the injury he incurred near the end of the summer. His timing was notably off, and was giving up odd man rushes multiple times per night. He was better in his last 4-5 games but still not 100%.

Meanwhile, Kovacevic has played like an elite shutdown dman, and stole his spot.

Nemec would make a lot of NHL rosters right now, but the devils RD depth is pretty insane right now - with Casey and Kovacevic playing the way they have, Nemec would be the 5th RD on my depth chart.

It's a great luxury to be able to be patient with our young defenseman. But we are in no rush to move Nemec for anything short of an overpayment in a position or role of need.

Regarding this proposal, Mailloux is not a need with Luke and Casey set time run our PPs for the next decade.
