bad news, they still have 9 picks this year and 13 next year, including 7 in the 1st 3 rounds

*Still have 10 picks this year

We've had tonnes of picks for the last few drafts as well, any move for quality over quantity is fine by me. Hilarious to see people pretend that 57 and 198 are some huge cost to move up in the first.

Wouldn't surprise me if we package 21 with more picks to move up again yo take a faller like eiserman.

Weaker draft so moving up 5 spots doesn't cost as much as some might think that late in the 1st rd. Habs could be just targeting a hair more of a quality prospect at 21st or trading it for a trade (Rutger or others).
With some reports and obviously not officially until it happens, the Habs might be using that pick to target Rutger like you said, or another forward prospect with size to add to their pool. Their forward pool sucks and they're small.

5 spots in the 20s cost a 2nd rounder and a later pick wtf

think the Kings did amazing here

Habs trying to get ahead of Toronto 👀
the 7th pick is like nothing for us , I believe we had 3 of those. We can't with all our picks. I fully expect for Hughes to move up again to select the player they want in the 3rd, 4th or 5th round.

The chance of that 57th becoming an NHLer is less than 10%. The 7th rounder has super little value.

It's worth moving up for that price. It's just weird doing that without knowing who will be available. Maybe something else is cooking.
bro kings are money with those 7th rounders .. haha props to the draft team

100% agree.

I suspect Chevy & other GM's dont differ much on the value of Rutger. I suspect it comes down to more which specific prospect from their team he wants or a specific pick in the draft he wants so he can target a specific prospect the Jets want in the draft. Could also lead to Rutger in a package deal with a pick or player/prospect going to the other team. Fun times to watch it unfold.

I don't really get doing these trades before picks start happening. You can guess who might be there at 21 vs 26, but you don't know for sure. 198 is not a throw away, but you can always get a pick that late like they have before. For me, it's really 26 and 57 for 21.

if you go by this NHL draft pick trade value chart, the trade is pretty even.

21st OA has a value of 218

vs

26th OA has a value of 174
57th OA has a value of 47
198th OA has a trade value of 1
pretty even

I think they draft skill with the 5 th ( Demidov) and size at 21(Grenntree, Boisvert…) or They try to have Necas!

I really don’t understand the value. A 2nd rounder and a 7th to move up 5 spots late in the 1st round. Good deal for LA

These pre-draft trades kind of make sense in that you move up before someone falls and then there's a bidding war, but other than that I'm perplexed by this seemingly new trend

I'll be surprised if the Habs use #21 to draft a player.

Hughes is ready for action and I'd suspect he moves it.

A strange year in that so many pick trades have been made pre-draft.

With rankings all over the place, I guess teams are better trying to position themselves at the edges of their "tiers".
IMO, some of the rebuilding teams like CHI and MON have such a glut of picks they'd rather increase the chance of getting a player they're excited for and not worry about the overall pipeline.
