How was Subban a locker room cancer? I'm not too familiar with his time with the Habs. And couldn't find anything definite via google.

Try looking up Gallagher on P.K. Essentially everything with P.K. is about P.K., PK talks about PK all day long. That eventually pisses some people off.

I believe he had run ins with pacioretty plekanec desharnais markov Prust, another journey man winger , his name started with h , and I think even one or two more . I tried googling the desharnais one bit I’m not finding the clip I seen before . I remember subban was on the ice and desharnais must have hit him 10-15 times with two handers . After it was finally broke up you could see a couple guys tapping their sticks on the ice . Beaulieu was one for sure . It wasn’t a pretty site

Thanks. I think I'll be able to find something to quench my curiosity.

I know I’d have no problem giving bergevin an extension . I know he hasn’t brought a cup home in his 8 years but neither has about 25-26 other teams

Losing Hal Gill was when Subban started going off the rails. Hal was P.K.'s mentor and kept him in check during his first couple of years. He was a regular dining guest with the Gills and Hal would often rebuke him in front of everyone if he felt he wasn't acting right.

It’s little stories like that that are cool to hear . If Weber was there say before subban I could see Weber having to chat with him fairly regularly. I don’t think subban ever intended to rub players the wrong way but he had a hunger for the spotlight that caused a lot of his problems

Most of the flak bergevin gets dates back to the Subban trade. Subban was hugely popular with young and old fans and was always in the spotlight because that’s where you could find him . Bergevin really had no choice though . Subban was involved in more fights with his own teammates than with opposing players . A couple of these were pretty bad really especially the desharnais one . Subban on one hand was a game breaker but on the other would lead the league in minor penalties and giveaways. Whether bergevin got the right return at the time is debatable but the notion that bergevin is a bad gm or an idiot definitely stems back to that trade .

Agreed. It started there and then got worse in his middle span years of his 9 year tenure. He started as a rookie GM and was solid to start. But failed to get a center and started to trade picks away (lots of 2nd rounders) cause the Habs were making the playoffs and winning divisions. But then we fell and he traded Subban before the NMC kicked in. The 2017 off season was a mess too. He had a 2 or 3 year span where he trended very very low but has been very good in recent years. Some fans will never let him off the hook though

Yeah it's crazy but there are still people very mad that it happened even though now it's clearly working out in the Habs favour.

The main problem has been the drafting, Habs are probably close to worst record in league at finding impact players (Gallagher is about it) from like 2009-2016 period. The whole roster had to basically be built trading, waiver and FA acquisitions. Success is impossible when you are getting nothing from the draft. Now maybe the past 3 years things look better but we'll see how many of the young guys can take that next step from prospect to impact.

100% agree and especially with that last sentence . Bergevin had no choice really . It was either trade subban or trade 10-15 players it seemed

Development of players seems to have rounded a corner as well .

I keep saying it. It's 2020, not 2015 anymore. The time to fire Timmins was in 2015. We didn't and our pool is solid today. You can undersell our prospect pool like others are trying but it's foolish. Do you think the current pool is meh and turns into 2012+? :sarcasm:

Not sure if grown man with nothing better to do or just a child trying to troll on internet forums :(
Uh, here's a fun fact for you pal. There's a difference between a #1 defenseman & a top-pairing defenseman.

I said he's not a #1 defenseman, keep up.

I agree, and I didn't say the current pool was weak, said the picks of the past 3 years look good but just aren't proven NHL impact players yet because it's too soon.

They are unproven yes. I expect lots of up/down movement with all our assets moving forward. The main thing to look at is probability due to having both quality and quantity. There are like 1-3 teams with draft power that can match the Habs over the last 3 draft and the next one.

Count the amount of picks from 17-20 drafts and the amount of WJC talent in that same range? People can act pessimistic all they want but when you look at the context and development in draft plus development... the results and trends are way more positive vs negative.

A guy like Evans wins the NCAA scoring title and was a real impact player at both ends. Remember the pessimistic ones? Hold you horses, he is nothing special.
