Wait till Krug and AP get their money lol
Yes, Krug is an interesting comparable. Krug is 29 y/o, averaging a little over 50pts/year (better than pretty, similar style), but Petry averages more goals and better defensively. Based on this contract, Krug should get maybe 7-7.25mill/year. We'll see how much he gets and term.

Really fair AAV but a year too long, maybe taking Weber's long term health into consideration here.
Good job on MB, MON fans should be really happy with Weber and Petry for the next 3-4 years.
Excited to see Romanov, think him and Petry would form a good rookie/vet duo.

I’d kill to have Petry on the Rangers. He’s a top-pairing defenseman. Would I want to sign him when he’s a couple months away from turning 34? No. And I definitely wouldn’t want to make that gamble a year in advance either.

The Rangers gave this same deal to Shattenkirk and it blew up in their faces. Shattenkirk was 5-6 years younger than Petry when this deal will kick in.
So you're 100% sure that Petry will fall of a cliff just as Shattenkirk did ?

Being GM is such an easy job...

probably the ones who have to trade for a bottom pair defenseman's rights just to sign him to a $14 million contract.

You can take shots at Habs if you want but Petry signing a $6.25M extension is not where you do that. Dude's a stud and the way he skates at his age is quite extraordinary.

why the big deal about his age again? the guy is a late bloomer and has done nothing but keep improving. he's obviously going to slow down one day, but it won't be for another 3 years

Honestly good deal for both. Sometimes I’m not sure who is better between him and Weber. He started playing regularly at 25 so he doesn’t have as many miles on him as someone who started playing at 20. Weber and Petry on the right side for 5 more years is fantastic.

Decent contract for now, but in a couple years it could start looking ugly at his age. Time will tell of course

Great cap hit. Not sure about how good he will be by the 4th year but for now it will be a steal.

good signing for the HABS. maybe a few bucks too much (nothing to be pissed off about) and maybe a year too much (who cares), but a solid reliable big D man.

$6M this year, $1.5M for the next two. And Dan Girardi—another defenseman buyout—is still on the books as well, $1.1M again for the next two years.

Granted, not every team shares the Rangers’ abysmal track record with free agents.

We have our own mistake to . Petry seems a pretty safe bet though
