Post-Game Talk: MTL beats NJ in OT 4-3

played awful. Still got a point. Not bad. Just have to weather the storm until Henrique gets back. We will be fine. We havent played lights out this year but its nice to see that we have gained a point in every game

The money parise was asking for makes me glad he didn't sign here. Don't get me wrong he is an absolute stud, but I would not have been happy with kovy's and parise's contracts both handcuffing us.

And Prust can actually play hockey. Those are the only types of 'goons' that should be in an NHL lineup these days.

Haha that's why I said the closest thing! We don't need goons against the Caps, or Habs. I understand them against Boston, Rangers, Flyers, Pens, or the teams like Panthers who have Parros playing in the lineup.

Janssen is on a two way, and I like the guy, but he's clogging up a roster spot. Tedenbust is clogging up a spot too that it's just about time to call a spade a spade with.

We need forward depth. Carter, Gionta, and Bernier is not going to score enough to be a 3rd line.

I am not buying this "we didn't deserve the point" talk. We all know we didn't play well in our own end, but we scored 3 fair, hard earned goals to tie this game, and we tightened up when we had to. We also had some calls not go our way, but our PK overall did a good job too. Did we deserve to lose? Ya I'd say so, but I think we still earned our point. Now I am glad Pete is saying that, and holding guys feet to the fire so they can step their game up, but as fans I think we can give the team a little credit for not quitting and fighting back.

If its obvious, call it, but in overtime they really need to put the whistles away. Game should be determined by the players, not the refs.

Then youd be *****ing about all the subtle hooking, late hits, and cross checking

Yea Henrique and another top 9 guy.

My concern is that Henrique is just going to take Matteau's top 6 roster spot, and we're left in the same position but just add Darche. We need to sign Sykora, and we need to trade for someone.

Sykora would allow Clarkson to play in a 3rd line role with Josefson. The current 3rd line would be our 4th line. Our traded forward would also play on the 3rd line.

Henrique - Kovy - Zajac
Sykora - Elias - Zubrus
??? - Josefson - Clarkson
Carter - Gionta - Bernier

I like that a lot.

I LOVE CBGB, but this is what I've been saying. We were a two line team for much of the first half of the season last year until we got Poni. Clarkie scored, and that was it. Occasionally we'd get a Carter goal, or somebody else.

I just really want useless toothless out of here. I want some stability to our first line, and I think Butler could bring that.

Nothing against Darche, but I don't want him on this team. He will do not much, but be a competent 4th liner, and a PK guy. Our PK has been excellent picking up right where it left off last year. Only one 5 on 4 against back in game 1. One two man advantage against, and a 4 on 3 in OT against which is very difficult to kill off.

Yea since you assume Tedenby and Matteau go away you're actually left with.

Henrique-Zajac-Kovalchuk
Zubrus-Elias-Clarkson
xxx-Josefson-xxxx
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

We actually may have 2 more spots to fill unless they fill them in with a Darche, Butler, etc. Would be on board with the Sykora signing actually. Elias looks great and Zubie is always on point, so they can ride with him.

Edit: And yea didn't see the updated post lol

Sykora wasn't even signed before another old guy whose knee caused him to fail a physical (Arnott), or before another old guy (Knuble) who was far worse offensively last year. He's done in the NHL, unfortunately. And we're going to be stuck with Janssen/Barch-YaYo-Darche as a fourth line until Lou actually peddles off a defenseman for another forward.

I really don't want Darche. We're gonna need some scoring, and Darche won't constantly bring that. He's a PK/4th/borderline 3rd liner, and we need someone else. I'm fine with just getting Butler in the mix. I think Butler would flourish with us. Not a superstar, but a productive player.

Tedenbust is not a productive player right now, and if he will be it ain't gonna be in Jersey.

Well Henrique taking Matteau's spot is still a plus considering the difference in skill. Honestly I don't mind Darche as a cheap stop gap to replace Tedy, mostly because of just how god awful Tedy has been in our own zone. He isn't creating anything, and is lost defensively. Even if Darche doesn't get on the sheet often if he is competent defensively I think we can get by with Henrique back.

I would not roll that into the playoffs, but I also don't expect to as I am still sure Lou will provide a more dynamic forward via trade. I think Matteau is going to be a good player in this league in the future, but right now I'd much rather take Henrique and Darche over him and ****ing Tedy.

I just want Tedenby off this team. Would be nice if it happened tomorrow, and we could bring up Butler. See what he can do before Henrique gets back. I still think it's more than possible Butler got the shaft because of special treatment for Tedenby.

Really?

NOT SURE IF SERIOUS!

Yeah. Greene has been beat quite a few times and Zids has done nothing worthwhile. At least Volchenkov plays physical. I understand that he's been on the ice for most of the goals against, but right now I'd sit Greene or Zids. But Volchenkov is getting close to being scratched.

Honestly I'd be ok rolling Darche and Butler for a bit when Henrique gets back and just send Tedy back down. Might surprise, and at worst I think it could be competent and hold over until the trade goes down. We don't have to have the killer playoff lineup right this second, just something that will get us enough points, don't want Lou rushing to make a bad trade when patience might get us a better deal. I'd say keep them even with Henrique. Let Butler play the softer games, and play Cam against Boston, the Rags, Flyers etc. As been established even with Henrique back we need two forwards if we want to keep Barch/Cam out of the lineup. Darche is one for a while, Butler I think should be the other.

Also now I'd be annoyed if Larsson doesn't get into the lineup Tuesday. I think a couple of guys on D have earned a seat in the press box. If it wasn't for his PP stuff I'd be 100% for Zids sitting, but might be best he plays. We need him to work through this bad play. Sit Volch or Tallwacker.

I'm still annoyed at the ref who called that penalty.

Granted, it was a John Malkovich worthy acting performance by Cole, but as an NHL ref you have to have some formof situational awareness and player recognition.

Namely

A) Andy Greene is not that strong
B) Erik Cole is infamously known as one of the biggest divers in the entire NHL
