Pauly Martin was also a pretty highly regarded track and field guy I believe. Definitely a very good all around athlete - much like Patrik Elias.

My displeasure with Erik Cole and the officiating yesterday is well-documented on my Twitter so I won't get into that, but to see the boys buckle down after a horrendous first period and go down by two goals twice and still find a way to come back and earn a point is very encouraging.

I don't care how rusty they look these first few games, they collected seven out of the first eight points. This team has character out the ass and is very well-coached. Also, Marty is playing like... Marty.

Just keep finding ways to win and find the groove, boys. The rest will play itself out naturally.

Devils showed a lot of perseverance(sp?) in coming back and tying(and getting a point) the game.....

especially in a game where the Habs were outhustling them and outplaying them for the most part.

What we can only now hope for going into the Boston game is them ESCAPING with at least a point as well. I'm not going to expect a win 'cause they always seem to own us(though I would love for that to change)...

Martin is quite possibly the worst playoff defensemen in the NHL if you compare it to his overall regular season play.

Penguins can attest to this also.

He had an absolutely terrible year last year. He's started strong with Orpik this season. We'll see how they feel about him afterward.

That's ridiculous. Who are they gonna give that 5 million dollars to in order to replace Martin's minutes in the top 4? He's overpaid, but he's not overpaid by 5 million dollars.

Just seems like the odd man out. You know they love spending to the cap, and they will use both of those buyouts I think. Can you think of anyone else they would use them on? He's probably overpaid by about a million I'd say. Though he was getting close to $4 million before he left us right? I actually thought he was getting $5.5 this whole time, but it is only $5.

Looking at cap geek they have a lot of contracts coming off the books this year and next. Crosby, Fleury, Neal and Martin are the only ones that don't come off by Summer 2014 or before. You know they're gonna lock up Malkin long term.

Alright maybe they don't buy him out, but it don't look like they'd buy out anybody else either really. Definitely wouldn't buy out MAF. It would make sense to try and move Martin first if the need to get rid of him.

Martin is still useful. He is not dead cap space. Yes he is overpaid and underperforming, but he is not useless. They won't bother buying him out.
