When you have an arena that only hold 18,000 and 1/3 of that are corporate seats filled with people for the most part that are there for a free night out, then of course it is going to be quite. For me the 80's and early 90's was the best at the garden, crowd noise was not even close. A regular season game generated more noise back then before a playoff game does now.

Ticket prices. Why pay for season tickets when you can invest the money in a very nice TV/projection system and a nice chair to watch the games in? Also, food and beer is free/much cheaper.

You could hear a mouse fart during the Anaheim and LA games I went to this year. I'm embarrassed by it. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Having more dynamic players may help with the atmosphere, but the Garden diehards have always appreciated hustle plays. A hard hit, clear on the PK, or strong forechecking effort usually elicits loud cheers and whistles, albeit not as loud as they used to be. I think a lot of the diehards/Blue Seat ticket holders have either been priced out or are getting older and not as rowdy.

Bring back Prust and Avery?:handclap:

When will we see teams build stadiums that are on the smaller scale and therefore not dumping thousands of tickets a game. If you look at Yankee Stadium and Met Life, there's no way they are going to sell out of anything unless it's the WS or SB.

Not making any comparisons here, but one of the best places ever to watch a sporting event (and most expensive) is Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium. It holds less than 10k and is pretty impossible to get tickets for, even close to Face. Obviously they have less home games etc, but if teams would just build stadiums that weren't a ridiculous amount of seats, prices would stabilize and people wouldn't get in for $5 like they do now.

I know, I know... teams want to sell more seats for more money and don't give a crap about the reselling market enough to do this...

The Garden with the exception of the big rivalry and playoff games has been meh for years. I'm sure a big part of it is the fact that tickets are so expensive. They price out a lot of the rabid fans.

Here is an example of the new arena culture:

I sit in sec. 109, row 14. Maybe a dozen rows behind me, in the lower rows of 213, there was a guy who was very unhappy with the team's play against the Jets and was very vocal about it.

"This ain't the (expletive) ice capades!"
"When did we get a team of pansies?"
"Get in front of the net!"
"Bring back Esposito!"

A few rows in front of him and a few rows behind me was a guy, a professional in his early 30s, making fun of the first guy by shouting nonsensical rearrangements of what he'd just heard.

"BLAH BLAH BLAH - Ice capades!"
"You heard the man; take off your panties!"
"Hide behind the net!"
"Someone kill Carlito!"

It brought some moments of levity to an otherwise heinous third period, but it was a sign that there are fewer and fewer "yellers" at these games and more and more jaded types who have no problem openly mocking them.

I am one of those "rabid" fans, but I haven't been able to afford to go to even 1 game over the past two years. James Dolan has priced me out of seeing a mediocre at best product. Thanks Dolan!

That makes no sense. If you couldn't afford to buy 1 ticket in the past two years I don't think that's on Dolan. Are you saying that had the price of the cheapest seat been $45 instead of $55 you could have found a way to buy one...but you were just unable to find an extra $5 each year to make it happen? I could understand if you were priced out of season tickets...but out of a single ticket even once in two years? Clearly going to a Rangers game is not your priority...not that there's anything wrong with that as we all put different values on things.

That sounds ridiculous. Prices have gone up the past 2 seasons but seats in the upper bowl have only gone up about $20. I find it hard to believe that a "rabid" fan would not be able to afford to go to one game because of the price increase. You don't sound too "rabid" to me.
