Most Underrated Player in the NHL

It feels awkward to call a 1st Overall pick underrated.
Fair enough. If you're comparing him to other 1st overalls, I agree.

In terms of his role on the Oilers, I believe he is quite underrated.

Call it bias but at this point Binnington is genuinely supremely underrated by a sizable portion of fans. The hatred people have for his antics have completely blinded them from viewing him objectively. He's a genuine Vezina candidate this year. This guy has played behind some truly awful defensive systems and personnel the past couple of years. Anyone who has watched him play consistently knows he passes the eye test year after year, even if that awful defense sometimes harms his numbers. He's the main reason the Blues are probably going to finish right outside of the playoffs rather than get a top 8 pick. Don't be surprised if he makes Team Canada in 2025 and 2026.

Another vote for Sam Bennett. Dude does so much that doesn't always show up on the scoresheet, but when he's been deployed as a 1C (including PP1 duties), he's produced like one.

He might be the most well rounded player in the league. He can skate, carry the puck, make plays, crash the net, snipe from the outside, while also being excellent defensively. On top of that, he's one of the best pound for pound body checkers and fighters in the league. He's a dynamic power forward who can transport the puck through the middle of the ice and match up against other teams top centers. I can't think of another play who does so many things as well as him.

Forsling, Dobson, Rust, Hagel, Shane Pinto in his limited action looks like a stud, Trevor Moore, Eriksson Ek, Thomas Harley, Lehkonen. All players have been playing top line/top pairing level of play, but don't get the recognition they deserve

Carter Verhaeghe surprised he has not been mentioned

Feel like maybe he’s just acknowledged as a star winger at this point.

The line between underrated and just being a star can be pretty thin. To that point…I do almost think from my Avs, Lehkonen might be more underrated than Nichushkin…Nuke has reached the level where he’s just flat out amazing. A lot of people still think of Lehkonen as some third liner or middle six player when he averages nearly 20 minutes a night and is an invaluable top six cog for the Avs.

That’s why Bennett is the better choice than CV on the Panthers IMO if we are truly trying to stick with “underrated”. CV has followed up a 42 goal season with another season where he should get close to that mark and top it in total points as a true point per game guy. That kind of production will get you love from even casual fans who read simple G/A/PTS tables. What Bennett does goes way beyond those counting stats.

Somewhat biased but I'd say Adrian Kempe is underrated. I don't think he's a top winger in the league or anything but wish he'd get a little more love around the league, He's good defensively, kills penalties, can fight, and for the past few years has been the only way Kings PP can get into the zone.

Love Kempe. His goal scoring is down this year due to some way below average shooting%. Guy is a walking 35-40 goals and a really versatile player. That’s a rare, rare commodity. In terms of goal-scoring, true two-way wingers who are asked to do so many different things for their team, I think Forsberg might be the standard just for sheer workload placed upon him but I’d have Kempe right up there.

Think about Kempe on the top line of the Oilers or Avs or Canucks…he’d be ridiculous.
