Most painful win of the season. LA 8 EDM 2

Oilers need to trade one of their big four to fill other areas and to send a message. Those kids have been made untouchable and they know it. Deal Yakupov or the Nuge, fire everyone from the waterboy up, get a scouting staff that can actually understand what talent is and do the rebuild right.

And hire Terry Murray to give the whole team defensive structure.

c'mon.....how the hell did someone not already go here

LOL, I forgot about that scene.

TM should have came in when Eakins did. Honestly, they never should have got rid of Krueger. Only coach since 2006 to have them in the hunt for a playoff spot around the trade deadline, then they fire him, after that one season. MacT is a friggin idiot.

The Buffalo tankers feel like this towards Edmonton right now.

I couldn't love that one any more! That girl is almost my wifes doppleganger (my wife is a bit older but that girl could be her kid sister) and one of our cats looks like that cat to the T with the only exception being that it has blue eyes. Really funny, can't wait to show the misses.

I felt terrible for both Scrivens and the kid. I really like Scrivens based on his time here. He deserves better.

That game was pretty much unwatchable after it got to 4-1...

People keep saying how much talent the Oilers have but I'm starting to really question that. None of them seem to have any leadership ability or heart. Generally even the worst teams have guys you can point at and say "he's a heart and soul type". I don't see anybody like that on the Oilers.

I didn't feel bad about the game at all with the exception of having to watch a very solid goalie like Ben Scrivens get hung out to dry on all but one goal. He has that same shell shocked look that Rob Stuaber used to have when he was with us. OT a little but I would love to have Scribbles back on the Kings as Quicks back up. He still has several very good years of hockey left in him if he can get on a solid team.

Bunz should've never been put in net in a situation like that. What was the point? The Oilers have nothing really to play for, and you put a goalie into his first NHL game in a game that you had no chance? Talk about wrecking the kids confidence.
Almost as bad as the Sharks putting their 5 top players on the p.p. in game 2 when they're already up 6-2.

Bunz is a 23 year old on the final year of his contract so likely Edmonton was giving him a look as part of the process of deciding if he was worth resigning or not. They have other goalies in the system, and only so many spots to go around.

The kid is likely a backup at best at the NHL level so he'll be stepping into situations like this often. I have no issue with what Edmonton did.

That is a perfect point to make. A microcosm of the Oilers org as a whole (or a hole if you prefer). Throwing a kid out there who is going to get beaten and beaten well for their first NHL game was just a bad idea. IF the Oilers had any sort of a team (instead of a collection of very talented individuals) I could see it as one of those "we need you kid, go do your best and know that better times are " sort of things but what they did was "well you gotta start sometime" nonsense. Oilers players and fans deserve so much better and have enough of a foundation in talent to where it should change sooner rather than later.

One of the rare times that I actually disagree with you, sort of but still. Not saying your wrong but I was surprised that I didn't agree.

What is sad is the coaching staff never even considered wrecking his confidence. Bernier got sent down to work on his game yes, but also they didn't want to destroy him when we had no defense.

There were 3 goals against he should of had and 2 were particularly awful.

And a general FYI Bunz was called up because the back up atm had a family emergency.

Also the coaching is not currently the problem, have you seen the defense? That's a GM issue. The defensive structure of any team with an AHL defense would be suspect at best. No coach is going to make JSchultz a defensive stalwart because he just doesn't have it. He was poor in the AHL when he was lighting it up before he came the NHL. He's an offensive Dman who needs to be sheltered permanently, he's not a tough comp type. Klefbom needs developmental shelter and so does Marincin.

Petry may of not been great but he could play the tough guys good enough to let Klefbom and Schultz thrive on lessers. But again, our GM gave him away for peanuts instead of just signing him.

I get this reference :)

We've said the exact same things you have over the last 24-ish hours across two threads. No need to pick out one post you disagree with and 'enlighten' him.

I may be missing something but I agree with everything you said with the exception of your coaches decision to pull Scrivens in favor of Bunz. I could see pulling Ben for the rest of the period and then putting him back in for the 3rd but to leave that kid out there was a bad move in the way I see things. But that is debatable. I agree on JShultz being in over his head but I think that there is an NHL dman in him somewhere. Petry was Petry, nothing more than a #4/6 on a contender but what he brought that was more valuable then his abilities was his veteran (I know) leadership and determination. That is where the Oilers are struggling the most as I see it. They need to move some of the talented kids and bring in a few Veterans that care about making the Oilers a great team again. It is what the Kings needed to get over the hump and what the Sabres are going to need very soon too.

****ing Sharks.

@lakingsinsider An update: Nick Shore has won 72 of his last 113 faceoffs (63.7%).

See yah, Stoll!
Before Stoll leaves he will teach Shore the art of how to take offensive zone penalties with less than two minutes left in the 3rd while trailing by a goal.
