Dillion was a junior phenom who signed with the WHA Toronto Toros in 1973. In his two years with the Toros he had 30 and 29 goals and 160 total points. The Rangers shocked the hockey world when he was picked 12th overall in 1975 and then made stealth moves to get him out of his WHA contract. This guy was advertised as the second coming.
Dillon joined the Rangers as a 20 year old in 1975 and it didn't quite work out as planned. He scored 38 goals over two years and was down to 5 goals the next year. He went back to the WHA and was out of hockey altogether three years later.
I don't remember what went wrong here but I don't know anyone in hockey (I was in hockey in those days) who didn't think he was going to be a big NHL star.
