Pretty hilarious considering all of them made it further than any of the Leafs' core except Marner, and it took him selling his soul to Satan by going to Vegas.

Also by the time they had gone to TOR they were already basically cooked. Thornton was what, 40? Marleau the same? Burns was 40 this year as well; he should've never been relied on as a top-4 option at this point anyway.
Never too old to teach people how to lose. They perfected the art for 15 years in San Jose. Hell Jumbo Joe and Marleau probably got Nabakov over in the summers to teach Freddy Andersen how to let in that critical goal at just the right time to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The leafs make the Thornton sharks look like the 70's Canadiens

naturally this means San Jose is obligated to take him on
ask not what can the Toronto Maple Leafs do for you, but what can you do for the Toronto Maple Leafs

That's a pretty dumb mentality given the randomness involved in hockey.
The team that wins <- The team that played better <- the better team

Fundamentally you're not wrong, those three things are often different for a given game/series/year.

That being saying - that realization and the subjective detachment from outcomes that comes with it sucks a lot of the passion and fire out of both following and playing the sport.

I mean, it wasn't us who brought up the Sharks' past core
Was making a sopranos joke hehe, didnt hit the way it supposed.

I doubt shark fans care too much about the past core failing to win. They have a bunch of young studs led by a top 5 player in the league whose 19 years old.

Sharks have had a good amount of draft luck coupled with intentional rebuild process and the teams starting to get close to being playoff ready.

Probably need 1 young high end D (Reid, Carels or Smits) to add to Dickinson and then 1 trade/UFA signing for a under 30 locked top pairing dman away from being a cup winning level team as long as askarov becomes a solid starter

No injures in the blues series in 2019 and the sharks win the cup. Bold statement but I'll stand behind it any day

I also think that in 2016 if the Sharks faced any other Eastern team in the Finals the Sharks destroy them in 4 or 5. It seemed like the Pens were the only Eastern team that was built in a way that would give them trouble and of course that was who they got.
