Perron got 6.

10 isn't that outlandish given the context of it being right after a goal with seconds remaining in a non-hockey play.

It would be a similar logic to players coming off the bench. Does a goon coming off the bench mean a fight is going to be more violent than a fight that takes place if that goon is already on the ice at the time it is initiated? No. But if they need to penalize it with a long suspension because otherwise there is too much incentive for goons to come off the bench and interject.

If they don't give him a significant suspension, then it teaches players that you can engage in a non-hockey play with intent to injure when the game is already over and best case scenario you take out the star of a rival team with very little consequence to yourself or your own team.

If this was a goon/repeat offender type, it would be a massive suspension. Reilly's only saving grace is that he is a good boy and he is not strong enough to hurt Greig. The floor is 6, which was Perron's suspension (which had a failed appeal fyi). It will likely be higher because of the timing and context of it happening when the game was basically over.
He's 100% not getting 6+ games, lol.

Even if you want to claim the goal was 'hotdogging it', that's a crime without a victim unlike a stick to the head. What harm was caused to anyone by an empty-net slapshot, not like the dude was taking aim at another skater after the final buzzer.
This so much. I am in no way one for over the top celebrations, unsportsmanlike behaviour, hotdogging it, or anything along those lines. I just think it is a little douchebaggy, childish, and disrespectful. And I can 100% see how someone can see the slapshot as being that.

But a cross-check to the head is dangerous. The bigger man just ignores the hotdogging instead of engaging. There is no need for retribution, and thinking there is is way more disrespectful and childish than hotdogging.

You new here?

I butchered that sentence. Was saying most people wouldn’t have know the play even happened. It’s only getting attention from the reaction. Sure a few pot shots from sens fans but this would have been a nothing story. It’s not getting bullied in a playoff series.

then go for him with a tackle, or a whack to the legs

not a crosscheck to the face

Nobody is denying this. It was a 100 percent bait move because Greig is a bit of a pest.

That is the entire point. Reilly hilariously overreacted and got baited. Now he will be suspended and the Leafs might miss the playoffs because of it.
I'm not defending the response it was out of line.

Sens fans enjoyed seeing some guy slap shot a puck into an empty net and not miss (well done buddy!) and leafs fans enjoyed seeing him get decked.

Win win, no? Entertainment. It's what we are here for.
Yeah watching someone doing something completely legal and then watching someone do something that would be assault off the ice because their feelings are hurt is a win-win.

You want entertainment? Mo or anyone else challenged Greig to a fight instead of cheap shotting him in the head. Greig is a willing combatant.

Agreed I think he gets 3 games. No prior history, stick rode up a bit. But still a dangerous play. Also Grieg was not injured on the play. So I say 3, maybe 4. But this is an over the phone hearing.

In life, only you give others the power to hurt you emotionally with their words and actions. If you do not give their actions weight, they have no power.

A lesson, from kindergarten. It's difficult to practice at times, I'm not saying I have never lost my cool, but this is a perfect example of it. Dave Chappelle had a PSA about it called Keeping It Real Gone Wrong.

I don’t think so, I don’t even think it would be big news.

The reaction is what made it such a big deal.

Maybe he goes over and jaws at him or shoves a glove in his face and there’s a little post-game scrum that happens often enough.
Let's be honest here. There was quite an amount of uproar here when the Leafs played that UoT goalie for the last 45 seconds against the Habs in a 7-1 win. I'm pretty sure there would be just as much uproar had Morgan did what you said.

He just made the most of his opportunity tonight and will get to fight Ridley when they play next.

At least Hunter didn’t crosscheck Turgeon across the face.

21 games. That’s what Turgeon got.
We’ll keep it at that since Leaf fans are super upset that Greig hit the puck really hard into the net and apparently humiliated everything hockeys ever stood for…
