I see neck in that video. His stick ride’s along Greig’s shoulder. Greig’s head initially snaps forward toward Rielly when he hits him in the neck. Then he sort of turns his stick and follows through against Greig’s head/face with his right hand.

Anyway not really the point. My point is there’s a difference between Perron’s clean cross-check to the head and a cross-check that rides up the arm and shoulder. You have to keep control of your stick, it’s an obvious suspension regardless, but it’s a different level of suspension.
You guys keep talking about the stick "riding up" like he just got nicked in the head after absorbing most of the contact in the shoulder, it's bullshit. He gets nicked in the shoulder and takes the vast majority of the force afterwards to the head and neck.

Stop trying to argue this, it's embarrassing.

Rielly retaliating was perfectly fine, but the cross check is where he may have crossed the line.

The slap shot was 100% disrespectful, especially coming from a rookie. He could have easily just guided the puck in.

Do you think licking is violent? Because it can be considered a sign of affection. But it’s not tolerated.

Didn't Marchand face discipline for this?

I think the NHL thinks that breaks the rules.

Wouldn't link someone be sexual assault?

Either way, shooting at an empty net ain't against any rules so comparing it to licking seems rather silly.

It made the opposite then you were hoping for.

He should get anywhere from 10-20 for that weasel cheapshot straight to the head, but I think it'll be 6 just like Perron. Cheapshots targeting the head are the most trash things in hockey and should be removed from the game. If Reilly was a real man he would have challenged him to a fight instead of trying to injure him. Spineless rat behavior.
Totally disagree.....I think he should be suspended, but 10-20 games is absurd. I also think Perron's was worse, more forceful and direct to head, Reilly's seemed to be heading towards shoulder and has Greig reacts to block, moves up.....hard to tell 100%, but either way, it wasn't as a straight on forceful blow to head....was also more towards the hands than flush middle of shaft of stick....which shouldn't matter much, but does a bit I think.

I also think Reilly sort of didn't exactly know what to do, thought he had to respond and that sort of just happened....so yeah, agree, suspension, but any more than 5 games seems high. Contrast with the Hunter vs. Turgeon....Hunter was clearly going after him to hurt him (also, some will say it doesn't matter at all.... I think it does....Turgeon didn't deserve it....Greig deserved something).

Tbh, I think every team needs their pest ala Marchand.
Losing Reilly for any more than 1 game may very well drop Toronto out of a playoff spot. Dumb move by Reilly.
Yea it's certainly possible, but the Wings have a continued tough stretch here up till March. Colorado a couple of times, Vancouver again, Edmonton, so who knows how that is going to play out. And Tampa losing Serg for the season has to catch up to them at some point. Unless Kucherov is going to keep dragging them into the playoffs.

I don’t think I said that at all… it’s a question of intent, not force. Clearly there was quite a bit of force to the head and neck.

Leafs are the most violent team in league history - suspensions dont lie.
Did you know, since 2009-10 season, the Leafs are not the team with the most suspensions?

Lock in your answers now....

That honor goes to

drum roll

The Flyers, at 30 suspensions.

Washington comes in second at 26 suspensions.

Boston comes in at 3rd with 23 suspensions.

Not to be outdone by the rest of the league, the Leafs come in 4th with 22 suspensions.

Unfortunately, not quite the most violent team, at least in recent league history.

The endlessly entertaining saga of the Leafs being the worst franchise in professional sports is a telenovela that never stops with the great plot twists. Can't wait for the Zamboni driver's twin brother to be an EBUG and shut them out on the last day of the regular season so they miss the playoffs.

Mike Johnson summed it up best on Edmonton sports talk. (1:05:25). The Nielson Show - February 12th - Hour 2

1. Greig can do what he wants. You want to piss off the other team, go ahead.
2. Greig should know and expect a response.
3. Greig went down hard because he knew that Rielly did something stupid.
4. Crosscheck to the head is never a valid response.
5. Rielly should and will get suspended.
6. People who think DOPS has it in for the Leafs are incorrect.

This is a league where coaches throw hissy fits because the other team tried too hard (or didn’t try hard enough) at the end of a blowout.

Some do, yes. Not all.

For example, I've never seen Jacques Martin have a hissy fit because the other team tried too hard.

It's really only a few teams or a few players.

I often see teams put their star player with 2 goals out in the ice looking for a hat trick when it's a blowout. No one seems to care for the most part.

Only a few loose cannon types might have issues. This is the NHL. Players have bonuses. Stars want their cookies. They'll keep playing and putting up numbers even in a blowout.

The intent was very clearly there too or Rielly never would have “missed” that bad.

Tell us more about the respect the Leafs showed when they blewout Montreal, put their top PP unit out at the end of the game, and put a rookie in net for the last minute
