Where can I read/see this?Going to assume that Friedman represented his boss really well
Where can I read/see this?Going to assume that Friedman represented his boss really well
Its the act not the outcome that should be punished
The problem is the NHL is inconsistent
There are multiple posts in this thread with examples provided of cross checks to the head and face that went unpunished by the league.
This one is shaping up to be a lengthy suspension for a player with no history
It’s okay to ask why at least
Well done, thank you.Paraphrasing cause I didn't write anything down of course as I listened to it on a walk but more or less:
- Friedman agreed that Rielly went too far - referenced a past example where Rielly fought Morrissey over a hit on Robertson which would have been a better response with Greig, shouldn't have lost his cool on Saturday.
- Friedman agreed Rielly should be suspended, but thought it would be in the range of 2-4 games and was surprised by the in person based on past examples. Referenced Lizotte and Magiapanne suspensions, also Matthews getting two because it didn't ride up on Dahlin and was straight to the head.
- Friedman and Marek both stated that this is all a case of tribalism - if it was reversed and it was Robertson or Knies that did what Greig did, Tkachuk would have responded and Sens fans would want him to. Similarly, if it was reversed, Leafs fans would be mad at the Sens for responding.
- Similar to the above, Sens fans calling Leafs fans out cause it was 'just an empty net' would have the opposite opinion if it was reversed. Again, all an example of tribalism in sports. Both sides are being ridiculous kind of opinion.
- Referenced past players including Marc Methot who said what Greig did was a no-no and that Rielly should have responded, but went too far.
- Mentioned how the Leafs are always called soft with no pushback/response and if the Leafs didn't do anything they'd be ripped (again, went too far), and Leafs fans will like that he had pride to do something. Again mentioned Sens fans would be happy if Tkachuk did the same.
- Hard for people to be measured/neutral with their opinions (case and point this thread).
- Referenced the Giroux interview post-game and how he didn't say much about it either way. Mentione how they believe he didn't like what Greig did and understood why Rielly did something in response, but obviously didn't like the severity of it. Referenced him learning under Pronger who would have done something way worse than Rielly did.
- This puts the Leafs in an awful position being without Rielly for a prolonged period of time.
- Mentioned examples of in person hearings getting less than 6 - Kulikov and John Moore, and Spezza.
- Reignites the Leafs/Sens rivalry which is good for the league.
Probably missing some stuff but that was the crux of it off the top of my head. Recommend listening.
Guess he wasnt brutally murdered by the cross-check after all
I agree with Tkachuk, and I'm sure Rielly regrets what he did and wishes he just threw his gloves down. That said, they were just trying to stress that fans on both sides are emotional and defend their own team, and that if another team did it to the Sens (or really if ANY team was in that situation), the fans would have wanted a response.Well done, thank you.
The issue with flipping the sides of the coin is that no one on the Leafs would have clap bombed or hotdogged into an empty net and Brady Tkachuk would have fought instead of cross-checking.
Almost as bad as sissys in baseball who empty dugouts when the other teams keep scoring when up 6 runs. Whiney babies who wasn't disciplined enough growing up.Imagine trying to explain hockey 'code' to a person who doesn't watch hockey.
See this guy shot a slapshot into an empty net instead of a normal shot. That is highly disrespectful! Therefore he deserves to get assaulted.
Getting down the list now - Tampa has 8 suspensions since Sept 2017 too!Probably because 5 out of 11 of Washingtons suspensions are Tom Wilson
You're both ridiculous. I literally said both sides should listen to it, meaning it was a pretty neutral, balanced opinion piece. Why don't you both give it a listen instead of spouting off nonsense and not contributing positively to anything.
Guess he wasnt brutally murdered by the cross-check after all
Damn how'd this one get zero games too?
Crazy. Rielly really shoulda just sucker punched him instead I guess if he didnt want to be suspended.
Of course not. It's just sad when the immediate response is that it'll be pro-Leafs when it was actually very balanced. I guess they're too lazy to actually listen to the 10 minute segment and just jump immediately to assumptions and theories. At least @Akrapovince seemed interested and asked about it.They're both Sens fans. Were you expecting a reasonable discussion?
Guess he wasnt brutally murdered by the cross-check after all
What makes this act selfless?
Would love to know the difference between the two instances. Is it cause he had another teammate near?
Guess he wasnt brutally murdered by the cross-check after all
Sucker open glove slap, more like.Yeah next time I hope Rielly just sucker punches someone instead

This thread is meh. It can not break the Hfoards' servers like the David Clarkson trade did. What's the longest thread in hfboards history anyways?
So your argument is because they did it in the past, it should be the same for the present? Is that a hill you want to die on?Thats not how the NHL has disciplined in the past
Full wind up slap shot.what's a 73 mph shot in your books?
Sucker open glove slap, more like.
