I'm not one to argue for or against legal charges here but why does injury have to precede the action in terms of punishment?

That’s how the NHL adjudicates this stuff. The punishment is generally proportional to the action and how much time is missed by the player injured.

But I do agree with you any head shot should be disciplined.

At least Perron was sticking up for a teammate that got knocked out, not a black puck mark on white twine on a net that their team doesn't even own.

True. Atleast in Perrons here it was justice for Larkin being laid out. Morgan’s actions were the results of slight embarrassment due to being a sore loser. Taken in context, Morgan deserves much more shame here.

This has misplaced anger dripping off of it like it just got out of a pool.

Why does Greig get crosschecked? Did he break a rule? Commit a penalty? No he made the Leafs feel bad. Did he violate "the code"? F the code. You don't like getting empty netters cranked in from 4 feet away, play better.

If you have so much respect for the code and the history of the game, put in the effort when you're playing. Don't cheat the game. Understand that every day of your career is what would be a dream for millions who will never get it. You made a shit play at the blue line. Be angry at your mirror. Be angry your team is set up like a country club and that there's such a divide between the "members" and "the help" and that there's no heart in your team because of it.

Acting like a child after you get beat with fake toughness is a far greater disrespect to the game than a slapper into an empty net ever was.

Getting suspended when your team is battling to maintain a wild card will show them all how much "grit" you have. And Reaves needs to go do something else with his life. He's a f***ing caricature at this point and I say that having always liked players in his role. The only reason anyone has to fight him right now is so that hopefully the Leafs keep dressing him to sit 55 minutes a night and run his yapper from the bench and stare at people. Useless.

This is one hell of a daft post.

Boxers, UFC and martial arts are sports where the essence of their practice is fighting within fixed rules.

Morgan Rielly taking a stick to an unsuspecting guy's face in a premeditated manner because he scored a goal is decidedly not part of the essence of hockey.
Don’t be daft, nice, I haven’t heard that since last time I was in England.

Both you and who you were responding to were talking hyperbole. Hockey is a contact sport, you dont expect a guy to crosscheck you in the head. Boxing is a contact sport, you dont expect gut to bite your ear. There are rules for a reason.

1 game for a crosscheck to the head after the play.

1 game thats it.

How many hockey players have been arrested for a crosscheck to the head??? How many in 100 years?

Fighting is a penalty in hockey.

This wasn't a fight. It was assault with intent to injured.

You have really poor writing skills.

You're wrong.
"Intent to injured". You have to admit it's funny to make a typo and then accuse someone of bad writing immediately after.

Calling it "assault with intent to injure" is over dramatic at best. There are so many nasty slashes that happen in this game that would qualify as such in any other instance, but it happens in the context of hockey where it's not a criminal offense (with extreme exceptions like McSorley and Bertuzzi).

Wow this thread is like a wildfire.
Or more like a tire fire considering it’s content.

Buddy was hot dogging and empty net goal. Rielly took exception. Went for the cross check but it landed high. He’ll sit some games for that.
But ya somebody should get the cops on the horn.

Like in Montreal?

If they knock someone out during weigh ins or arm raising. Yes. It’s not part of the fight at that point. This isn’t complicated.
How many hockey players have been arrested for crosschecks to the head?

complete nonsense.

Didn’t even hit his face. Just his neck.

Oh and the left side of his face.

But not his face face.
That's the only angle u guys are looking at look at the other one. Clearly hit shoulder and then he raised hi arm carrying the stick up, by the Morgan had let it go.

No hadn’t seen than view. It’s even worse from that angle. Reilly literally tried to do serious injury there. Greig was very fortunate he didn’t get really hurt bad.
That's the only view anyone is looking at of course u see it.

When Did I say Rielly should be arrested? Previous plays dont concern me. In this case he will be getting more than 1 game and it is deserved.

Disciplinary action is supposed to be based on precedent. Not having any rhyme or reason from one suspension to the other is why they have independent appeal processes.

The "assault with a weapon" crowd is hilarious. Honestly it's like you guys have never watched the sport before. Legal action lmao.

Each of these are different because the league always looks at the flex number on the stick when they are handing out the infractions and suspensions. :sarcasm:
