His steady, gradual development over time has been probably the most gratifying to watch of any player on the team.

Now if only he'll learn not to take boneheaded shots from the point on the PP

Imagine Morgan Rielly with a real first pairing D-Partner?

i'd love to at least see him play with a guy like Dermott

Rielly - - - Dermott
Gardiner - - Zaitsev
Hainsey - Ozhiganov

He is honestly becoming my second favourite player on the leafs.

Matthews
Rielly
Marner
Andersen
Tavares/Nylander

Reilly has been following the path of improvement that pretty much all elite defenseman (minus the doughtys and karlssons of the league) follow. He’s still young too, we’ve got another 8+ seasons of this guy leading our back end. He truly is elite and I think by the end of this season everyone will agree.

I think about how Burkie pumped up Rielly and everyone rolled their eyes. Turns out, he was right. I'm not trying to make this pro-Burke, its more of a testament to thank goodness we didn't whiff on this pick, especially with what went on in the 2012 top 10.

It would be nice of more of our mid-round picks started to hit, but at least we've hit on our top 10 picks since Schenn. That should be considered easy or a slam dunk, but it actually isn't. Just some examples.

Devils: Zacha
Oilers: Yakupov, Puljujaarvi
Canucks: Virtanen, Juolevi
Flames: Bennett
Islanders: Strome, Reinhart, Dal Colle

Rielly has been a beast this year. I'm very impressed.

He even has captain material now more in my eyes, especially when you hear the players talk about him. He is the defacto leader, even if they don't give him the C.

He’s been incredible so far this season. Proving last year wasn’t a fluke. Just wish we could find him a legit top 4 D partner for the longterm.

As for captaincy, it won’t be Rielly. If management wanted to give him the C they would’ve done it by now.

Some interesting tidbits by Babcock on Rielly and him being the backbone.

“There’s no one who likes being a Leaf more on our team than Rielly,” head coach Mike Babcock said after Saturday’s win. “…He’s got unbelievable enthusiasm every day and zest for life and he shares that with the guys.”

[...]but whether he's organizing dinners on the road or taking new players under his wing, Rielly is repeatedly referred to around the room as the Leafs’ backbone.

"He’s got high energy. It’s always fun being around him,” Marner said. “On the power play, when we’re scoring or anything, usually it’s us two screaming and getting loud about it. He brings us in, makes us feel a part of the family. It’s that special talent he’s got.”

Great to see how Rielly has developed over time. Has been here through some rough times but also for the turnaround. The offense is great and has certainly matured as a leader on the team. Hopefully the season just keeps going well for him.

I thought Rielly might only be a top 4 D, and there's nothing wrong with that. Top 4Ds can become top pairing D's or number 1 D's. He's a really likeable pro athlete and I hope he keeps getting better. Happy for him and the great start he's had.

Mo should change is last name to Norris.

Mo Norris better than Chuck

:yo:

Chuck counted till infinity

Mo counted infinity + 1

Chuck am just kidding don’t at me
